“I’m trying to. He makes me happy. I mean, all the pack does…”
Andrea waves her hand. “No, no, I get how packs work. You love all of them equally. I would never expect my brother, or any one of them, to be your favorite.”
That helps me relax a bit. Cruz is Andrea’s brother. It would be natural for her to want him to be a little special in people’s eyes.
“I’m just so glad that he’s got an Omega at last.” Andrea accepts the coffee I pass her. “Cruz has made his life about his career and I understand his drive, but you need balance in your life. I worried sometimes that he would take too long to find an Omega and miss out on things. He needs one, I think. Someone who is safe to come home to and who balances him out.”
“I can see that. Cruz is very driven. I love that about him.”
Andrea takes my hand. “Just make sure that you’re supporting him the way he needs to be supported. That means challenging him when you know he’s getting in his head, or focusing too much on the game instead of his own health. He needs to relax too, you know? Don’t just blindly cheer him on.”
“I won’t.” I squeeze her hand. “I appreciate the advice.”
“Good.” Andrea lets go and sips her coffee. “So, how much have these guys told you about themselves?”
“What do you mean?” Is there a big secret that I need to worry about? Something in their pasts that might come back to haunt us?
“I mean have they told you what hellions they were when they first joined the Titans.”
Ohhhh. I grin. “You know what, no, they never mentioned any of that. They’ve only told me about how they bonded quickly and became a pack.”
“Of course they didn’t tell you. They want to seem all mature now.” Andrea grins. “But don’t you worry, that’s what I’m here for. Did you know that Lawson got drunk and rode a horse naked through the park?”
“Um, no, he failed to mention that little detail.”
“You’re in for a real treat.”
Andrea regales me with stories about the misadventures that the pack has gotten up to. No, not the pack. My pack. These are my Alphas, if the courtship goes well. If they decide they really want me to stay forever.
It’s clear that Andrea is really close to all of these Alphas, not just her biological brother, and I love how playful these Alphas are. They’re all so serious, especially Knox, and focused on their careers. I love hearing about the times they’ve been goofy, and seeing the close bond they all share not just with each other but with Andrea.
I want that for myself, so badly. And I actually have hope that might happen. I have hope that I’ll be able to be a part of this pack for the rest of my life and finally have a family. I can taste it on my tongue, feel the happiness of it in my blood. I just hope I’m right.
“What exactly are you telling her?” Cruz asks, coming around the corner into the kitchen with a full laundry basket. He’s glaring with fond accusation at Andrea, who sips her coffee innocently.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“She’s telling me the truth,” I say, mock scandalized. “I had no idea what sort of Alpha pack I’d come into.”
“She’s full of lies.”
“So you didn’t build a homemade rocket and accidentally launch it through your neighbor’s window?”
“You’re a menace.” Cruz glares at his sister. “I’m going to get you back for this. Just wait until you bring around a boyfriend, I’ll have plenty of stories to share with him.”
“How could you?” She smirks. “I’m as pure and innocent as the driven snow.”
“Uh huh. Sure you are.”
Cruz shakes his head, striding down the hallway toward the laundry room. The other Alphas all come into the room, drawn by the scent of coffee, and I take the opportunity to slip out, following after Cruz.
When I step into the laundry room, I notice Cruz wince again as he lifts the laundry basket onto the top of the dryer.
A frown tugs at the corners of my mouth, and I make sure that the door is shut behind me before I speak. “Hey. You okay?”
“Why? Because of what I said out there? Don’t worry about it.” He chuckles, opening the washer and putting clothes inside. “Andrea and I were just teasing each other. I trust her with you, and really, there isn’t anything that I don’t want you to know.”
That thought warms my heart, but I shake my head.
