She nods. “Yeah. Thanks.”
It’s the afternoon now, and I’m sure everyone’s getting hungry, so after we leave the closet, I lead her by the hand toward the kitchen so we can make dinner together. The others are playing with Ben in the living room, starting up another game of Candyland.
The moment we enter, all three of my pack mates look up. Their nostrils flare as they scent Lily and sense her satisfaction, and their eyes go dark with heat and desire.
I smirk at them and gently squeeze Lily’s hand. She flushes gorgeously.
Yeah, they definitely know what just happened. I love it. And I love how Lily flushes for us under our gazes. She’s going to realize soon that she can ask for what she wants from us, but it’s so fucking hot to see her reactions to how much we want her.
I lead her into the kitchen so that we can make dinner, and it’s both shocking and not shocking at all how easily we fall into routine. Lily’s only been with us for a short time, and yet, she falls into our lives like she’s been here for years. Like this is always where she belonged.
Cooking with her is a joy. She’s so excited by all the food and meals she can make now, in our big kitchen, and I urge her to experiment.
“Tell me what recipes you’ve always wanted to make, and we’ll make them. We’ll go with what you want.”
“I’m sure you guys have favorites.”
“Sure, but we’ve made those favorites a lot. You haven’t had the chance. And isn’t cooking also about trying new things?” I grin at her and nudge her with my elbow. “I know you’ve got some stuff you want to try out. Don’t hold back on us. This kitchen is all yours too.”
Lily blushes and bites her lip to try to hide her smile. “All right. Maybe I do have a little recipe collection I’ve been keeping. For when I could have a real kitchen and afford ingredients.”
“There you go. You start picking stuff out and we’ll make a schedule. Besides, it’s important that Ben gets to try a lot of different food early on as a kid.”
“Been reading up, have you?”
“Oh, yeah. We all busted out the parenting books the second we got him.”
Lily smiles at me, her eyes soft and fond, and now my face is the one heating up. Lily’s such a good and caring person, knowing she likes us and is proud of us makes my heart feel like it’s doing backflips.
We get dinner set out and everyone joins us, grinning as they sit down. “We missed you when we came in earlier, Lily,” Lawson says, always ready to tease. “Were you a little occupied?”
“Maybe,” Lily replies. “You’re sure one to talk, mister, you kept me up pretty late last night.”
I smirk at Lawson, who shakes his head, remorseless. “Careful, I might be inclined to do it again.”
“And I might be inclined to join,” Cruz murmurs.
“There’s a kid here,” Knox points out, but he’s trying not to smile into his food. I know that Lily makes him happy too, even if he’s been dragging his heels on admitting it.
Lily redirects her attention to Ben immediately, but I shake my head at Knox, letting him see the grin on my face. “Ben’s not old enough to understand what we’re talking about.”
Ben’s distracted by Lily, so he doesn’t comment on the fact that he is old enough for whatever it is. It warms my heart how much he loves Lily already. I can’t blame him, seeing how fast the rest of us have fallen for her too, but I know that none of us would’ve been as ready to make her our Omega if Ben hadn’t been as attached to her as he is.
From there, dinner goes easily. Cruz explains more about hockey to Lily while Knox helps Ben with his dinner, and Lawson interjects his jokes and opinions into Cruz’s explanations.
It feels natural. Easy. Like we’ve been doing this our whole lives.
It’s mundane sitting there, and feeling like this, having it hit me that I want to show Lily every part of me. But I do. I want to have her in our lives forever. I don’t ever want to let her go.
That means I want her to see everything, all of who I am. Even the parts I don’t usually show people, the parts they don’t usually care about.
After dinner, Lawson and Knox insist on cleaning up, so I’m able to take Lily and Ben. “Come with me.”
I lead them up onto the roof of the house. It’s through the attic, up a ladder. “Ben shouldn’t come here without one of us to help him, but having an ability to get up onto the roof is something I asked for as a modification when we bought the house.”
Lily helps me get Ben up, then follows, accepting the hand I give her to help her up the last bit of the way. “I know we haven’t really had time to make our house a home yet,” I explain, “but this was a priority for me.”
“You’ll have time after the playoffs,” Lily points out.
