“He needed to know who you belong to.” He shot me a scorching hot look that made the rest of me flush too.

We had an audience. I could feel them around me even though I was looking at Tremaine.

“You know, I think I want to dance,” I said, standing up and moving the table with my magic.

Tremaine chuckled as a few people around us gasped, and I strode toward the dance floor. The music was louder over there, and that made me itch to turn around and walk the other way. But with so many people watching, and Tremaine following me, I couldn’t do that.

I slid between a few of the couples to get to a bit of open space. Since the music was slow, everyone was dancing with their date or mate.

I winced when a few of them bumped me; touching strangers always irked me.

A large, warm hand landed on my hip, and I sighed as it turned me. My chest met Tremaine’s, and his fingers dug into my hip lightly as he captured my other hand.

We started swaying with the music, neither of us good enough to copy the elegant dances some of the other couples were doing.

His magic slowly wrapped around me, though, and I found myself leaning closer to him. Pressing into him, too, for the calm relief of the magic.

Though I itched to rest my head on his chest and stop dancing altogether, I forced myself to keep up the charade, to leave that distance between us.

He lowered his lips to my ear as the next slow song started, and murmured, “You are absolutely stunning.”

Shivers went up my spine.

What if he really did want me?

And what if I really did want him?

I didn’t respond, and he pulled me a little closer, still swaying with me to the music. His erection met my belly, and my toes curled a little.

Hopefully he wouldn’t notice, since I was trying to keep the distance between us.

He noticed, though, and his chest rumbled contentedly as his magic swelled around him. I let out a long breath as the power washing over me calmed every one of my overactive senses, and my body relaxed just as completely as it would’ve in absolute silence.

“Shit,” I whispered, realizing he had just sealed my fate.

I couldn’t handle the world alone. I couldn’t even handle the wind fae lands outside the castle for more than a couple of hours, because of the damn wind.

But with Tremaine’s power on my skin and in my veins, I could do anything.

Chapter 8

I took a step back from him. He released me, though he eyed me curiously when he did.

Transporting myself back to his room in the cliffs, I let out a long breath, and then started pacing again.

We were mates.

I wanted to be his mate.

But what did that mean for us?

What did that mean for his kingdom?

What did it mean for my life?

Things were simple, while I lived with the wind fae.

I built homes.
