“Shush!” I hissed. Glancing down the hallway where Damian disappeared, I put down the bag with the breakfast on the center table. “I haven’t gotten around to that part yet.”

That earned me a disappointed look. “Don’t make the same mistake Lucy and April almost did.”

I huffed my annoyance. My sisters almost lost their chance at happiness with amazing men because of their fears. “Yeah, I know. That’s why I told Damian I’m willing to work with our relationship despite my apprehensions. I’ll tell him how I feel, eventually.”

Tessa didn’t look convinced. “Sure, so what’s your big secret then?” she asked.

Nibbling my lower lip, I considered coming clean about finding our father too. However, I decided against it. That was something I had to share with all my sisters at once. Maybe I’d tell them during one of our hangout nights…

“It’s been almost five months now, and it’s getting harder to hide. But none of you noticed because I’ve skillfully avoided all of you.”

Tessa’s eyebrows furrowed, accentuating her bewilderment, then the gleam of annoyance lit up her eyes. “Yeah, we’ve noticed.”

“I’m sorry. I just felt like I had to hide this…”

Untying my robe, I let it fall open. All I had on underneath was a bra and panties I’d slipped on when I got out of the shower.

Tessa’s gaze lowered to my stomach, and immediately, the confusion on her face cleared. Her loud gasp echoed in the room. “Oh, my gosh.” Her mouth opened and closed several times. “Oh, my gosh!”

I watched her with mild amusement as her expression seemed to fluctuate between shocked and happy. “Is that all you have to say?”

Her wide eyes clashed with mine before she squealed. Tessa jumped and clapped. “You’re pregnant. I can’t believe it! Why have you waited so long—?” she paused. “Oh, Nic. Right.”

The puff of air I released ruffled my bangs. It wasn’t just about Nic. “Yeah. Plus, I didn’t want to take away from Lucy’s pregnancy announcement.”

“Cass, we all would have been just as happy for you as we are for Lucy.”

Studying the carpet, I shrugged. “I know, I just…” Felt as if I deserved to suffer emotionally, at least a little, for lying to my sisters about Dad.

Tessa studied me with downturned lips. She rested her hands on my shoulders. “Aren’t you happy about the pregnancy?”

After wallowing in my guilt a little, I could look her in the eyes, but barely. “I am now. Damian has been very supportive.”

“That’s good. If you’re happy, I’m happy. The others will be too.”

“Don’t tell anyone. I mean it, Tessa.”

She huffed and her frown deepened as if she was trying to figure out why I insisted on keeping the secret. Finally, she shrugged. “Okay.”

Tessa’s arms wrapped around me, and it felt as if a little of the weight was lifted off my shoulders. It felt good to finally let one sister in. If only I could share the news about Dad…

I caught Damian’s arrival in my periphery. He froze when he saw me in Tessa’s embrace. “I didn’t mean to intrude…”

“It’s okay,” I said.

Another of Tessa’s delighted squeals filled the room. She let go of me and skipped over to Damian. “Come here, you.”

His eyes widened when my sister caught him in a bear hug. He sent me a questioning look, and I pointed at my stomach. Understanding dawned on his face followed by a slight smile. He gave her an awkward pat on the back, which made me smile.

Since he was all in for a relationship with me, he’d have to get accustomed to all my sisters’ affection. Tessa stepped back to glance between us with a dopey grin. She picked up fast on my pointed look though.

“Um… I should get going. I have that thing…” she trailed off.

I held back my smirk. “Uh-huh. Thanks for breakfast.”

“Anytime.” She walked over and gave me a peck on the cheek. “Bye, Damian.”

We watch her inch to the door, still giving us happy glances.
