“She couldn’t. All of it couldn’t come from her. When I asked her, she said she could provide me with all the resources but could not make me take any. She did suggest my volunteering at the day camp though, and that is where I met Harmon. He said his uncle was a honey-tongue, and he got in touch with you from there.” She smiled. “She was my angel before she was an angel, and I owe her everything. She also kept my weight up and kept me in shape. I was high maintenance.”

Kasim said, “You have reason to be.”

Ula looked at them and said, “So, how is this going to work?”

Kasim chuckled. “Well, if you don’t mind speed, Clark and I can come here daily until you are healed.”

“Then what?”

Walter chuckled. “Then we take you home, bunny.”

“Oh. Right. Can I stay near Merry when she is in heat?”

Kasim snorted. “I don’t think that will be necessary. I think that her alphas will take care of her.”

“I don’t think they will be able to fix things in time. Or get things ready.” Ula looked out at her friend and sighed.

Clark muttered, “What do you mean?”

“They have five days.”

Walter chuckled. “I am sure Giovanni is up to the challenge.”

Ula fussed. “I hope so. Merry deserves everything.” She checked her phone. “All hell should break loose on Monday.”

Walter stared at her. “Her cycles are that accurate?”

“Yeah. I had to know because she couldn’t do anything but work, and I had to bring her supplies.”

Clark laughed. “She works through her heat?”

“Yeah. It is difficult, but there is always some kind of result afterward. She says that only her body should waste its time. Her brain has bills to pay.” She smiled and repeated it dutifully.

Kasim snorted. “It can’t be much of a heat.”

Ula glared at him. “You have your body filled with liquid fire, and then you just sit through it every six months. Are you saying you wouldn’t want a distraction?”

He blinked. “I suppose I would if I didn’t have a mate.”

“She doesn’t. Didn’t.”

Clark frowned. “I never thought of that. My last rut was a few years ago. I just checked in for a day, and it was over.”

Ula shrugged. “That isn’t an option for omegas. We are in it, and it takes more than a day. When Merry cries, it breaks my heart.” She whispered the last.

Walter wrapped his arms around her. “I am fairly sure Giovanni will keep her from crying during her heat. If not, I will punch him.”

“Promise?”

He chuckled. “I promise. You might have to help put me together afterward.”

Ula frowned. “Why? He’s bigger and broader, but you can get a punch in.”

Clark chuckled. “You know that snarling feline beast on your friend’s back with the giant bone-crushing teeth?”

“Yes.”

“It isn’t Thomas or Richard.”
