“For your little friend?” He looked at her. “Sure. She can come live in the guesthouse.”
The casual agreement was easy, and she asked, “Did they warn you I was going to ask?”
He smiled. “They did.”
She snorted. “Can I stop flashing you?”
He nodded, so she carefully closed her legs and lowered them, flipping her dress over her knees.
“That is a lovely dress.”
“Merry bought it for me, and hers is the same but in black.”
“You have a lot of affection for this friend. Are you two romantic?”
Ula blinked at the intensity of his expression. “Uh, no. She catches me when I fall. Over and over. She holds me when I cry and tells me to get back on my feet.”
Kasim murmured, “You do know that that will be our job. Right?”
Ula nodded. “I know. She is willing to surrender being my emotional support.”
Clark nodded. “We are all in agreement then. We form a den.”
Ula said, “As soon as I am healed. And if you guys are going to fuck around on me, please let me know before I find out in public.”
Clark frowned. “What do you mean?”
“The guy who triggered this change into bunny inclination was a fox that screwed around a lot. I was dumb, and the burn was the result. I had the moronic thought that I was special. So, now knowing that there is a penchant for that in foxes, just let me know so I don’t feel like a moron.”
Kasim stared at her, and Walter nodded. “Right. Derek. Fucking idiot.”
Walter took one of her hands and said, “We are all in the time of life when we want to find a partner, and you are the only one of your kind, and you are gorgeous and perfectly suited to all of us. We will be faithful, or the other two will beat the transgressor to death or kick him out of the den.”
She exhaled slowly. She hadn’t realized how large a fear it was until it was spoken. “That sounds okay.”
Kasim chuckled. “It sounds okay to beat one of us to death?”
Ula closed her eyes and then looked at him with her beast in her eyes. “Hurt you or hurt me? Which one appeals more?”
He instantly cuddled her against him, and he chucked. “That is an interesting trick.”
Walter blinked. “What just happened?”
She looked at him with her bunny gaze, and he moved to comfort her. “That is impressive. Little miss, how did you learn that?”
She wrinkled her nose, and Clark chuckled. Ula muttered, “Merry taught me to meet my beast and use her for personal interactions.”
Clark cocked his head. “Does she do the same?”
“Hers just comes out in that aura of calm competence that she has.”
Kasim rubbed her back. “What is her beast?”
Ula swallowed. “Uh. I don’t know if I am supposed to.”
Walter chuckled. “What can it hurt?”
She whispered, “She’s my angel.”
