Theia opened her mouth, then closed it again and looked like she had no idea how to respond. I wasn’t a jealous person, but as far as I was concerned, she was mine. No one else could have her the way I did. They didn’t get to see her let go and give up her control to me in a way I knew she couldn’t do with anyone else. It was mine and mine alone.
“Okay, I’m going to pretend you didn’t threaten to kill anyone who touches me,” she muttered as her face flushed and she looked at her lap.
“But I would.”
She shifted in my lap, squirming slightly. My eyes narrowed on her expression and the way she bit her lip.
“Stop saying that.”
“Why? Does it scare you I’d kill for you?”
Her cheeks darkened.
“No. It has the opposite effect.”
It took me a second to work out her meaning.
“Oh. Is that something you’d like me to whisper to you in bed? About how I’m going to gut anyone who tries to take you from me.”
Theia buried her face in my shoulder as she squirmed again.
“Jesus, Gil, please stop. I can’t think properly when you say stuff like that.”
I wanted to make her surrender to me all over again, but I kept reminding myself I couldn’t until later. I’d have to make plans for it instead.
“I take it that despite what happened last night, you want to continue going to work.”
She didn’t pull her face away from me.
“Yes.”
“I’ve asked Edric to arrange a protection detail for you.”
That made her stare up at me.
“A what?”
“My men will watch over you. Make sure no one can take you.”
She blinked.
“You’re giving me bodyguards?”
“Yes.”
She placed both hands on my chest and pushed away from me slightly.
“That’s crazy. I don’t need bodyguards. They’re not going to want to follow me around. And what the hell will my colleagues say when they see me turning up with a bunch of guys? Not to mention your brother. He’s going to know—”
I wrapped my hand around the back of her neck so she couldn’t go anywhere.
“I don’t give a shit what Zayn knows. You’remine, Theia, you hear me? I’m not going to let anyone take you away or hurt you ever again. My men will do as I tell them because you’re my girl. They protect what’s mine.”
The more I spoke, the more her eyes widened until she was looking at me like I’d lost the plot.
“I don’t even know what to say to you right now.” She wrestled herself out of my grasp and stood up. “I didn’t ask you to rescue me or treat me like I’m… I don’t know… a mafia wife locked in an ivory tower.”
“That’s not what I’m doing.”
