I couldn’t get my words out, but I hoped he understood what I was trying to say.

“Sex? I think you’d have noticed by now you and your feelings are far more important to me than that.”

What did I do to deserve you?

I dug my fingers into his hair and gripped it tight.

“Stop saying all the right things.”

“You want me to tell you to shut up, stop crying, and let me fuck you because I haven’t got off yet?”

When I’d calmed down, I’d be perfectly content to let him lay me out and rail me, but right now, I wanted to be held by the man I was falling for. I had to admit to myself, even if I couldn’t say the words to him. Why else would I not give a shit he’d killed people in front of me? There wasn’t much Gil could do that would put me off him at this rate unless he got a personality transplant and started treating me like shit. I very much doubted that would happen, though.

“No,” I mumbled.

He chuckled and nuzzled my hair with his face. Gil wasn’t the type of man who would dismiss my emotional state for his own pleasure.

When I finally stopped crying, I pulled back and looked at him. His dark eyes were full of understanding, and it threatened to break me all over again. I was done crying. I wanted to pick up where we’d left off.

He let go of my hair to stroke his fingers along my chin.

“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered, smiling at me.

I wrinkled my nose.

“You think this is beautiful?” I waved at my face. “I’m pretty sure I look like a train wreck.”

He smiled wider.

“You’re my train wreck.”

I slapped his shoulder.

“Oh, shut up.”

His smile didn’t fade, but he reached over to his bedside table to grab the box of tissues. Then, with patient care, he wiped my face and made me blow my nose. His gentleness had me wanting to swoon. As he was putting the sodden mess on his bedside table, I grabbed a hold of his face, turned it towards me and kissed him. He let out a little grunt of surprise, but he dropped the tissues and wrapped his hands around me, cradling the back of my head with one of them. I rocked my hips, making him growl into my mouth in response.

The next thing I knew, he’d flipped us over, so I was on my back, and he was holding me down on the bed. Our fingers laced together as he started to fuck me again. His mouth fused back to mine, kissing me like he never wanted to stop. The way he fucked me was a frantic rush to the finish line. It wasn’t long until he was groaning my name and shuddering above me.

After the two of us cleaned up, Gil lay on his side and encircled me in his arms. I stroked his skin, staring at his hand curled around my stomach.

“Theia.”

“Mmm?”

“Would you show me those letters you received?”

My stomach sank. I didn’t want to read them again, but if Gil was going to find out who these people were, he needed to see them. I crawled out of his arms and went over to the bag I’d left by his chest of drawers, digging through the contents. Moving back over to the bed, I handed them to him as he sat up. I placed my head in his lap while he read each one. His body was tense underneath mine even as he stroked my hair with one of his hands.

“What is this?”

I looked up, finding him holding the raven charm between his fingers with a frown on his face.

“The place I was kept had ravens painted on the walls above most of the doors. I saw it every day in my room, but I don’t know what it means. Maybe it’s the symbol for the organisation.”

He eyed the charm for a moment longer before stuffing it back in the envelope and setting it down next to us.

“You’re probably right. It gives me something to look for unless you can give me anything else.”
