“I hate to break this to you, but you’re very good at other things too. I can list them for you.” I kissed his cheek before pressing my lips to his ear. “Protecting me. Whispering dirty things in my ear. Eating pussy, that one you should be particularly proud of because no one else has made me come with their mouth. Oh, and let’s not forget sex. You’re very good at that. I can attest to it.”

When I pulled back, I noted his cheeks had a faint pink tinge to them. His eyes were lowered as if he wasn’t used to being complimented. Well, he would have to get used to it if he wanted to be with me.

“Theia…”

I cupped his cheek with one hand and ran my thumb over his stubble.

“I’m not scared of you, Gil. The first time we met, you stabbed a guy in the hand. I didn’t run away then and I’m not running now. Besides, I can’t exactly go home under the circumstances.”

Gil looked up at me, his expression darkening. I tried not to think about H and the sex traffickers who were trying to get me back.

“I’m going to keep you safe. They can’t have you. You’remine.”

He didn’t allow me to say anything. His mouth met mine, kissing me with such intensity and passion. I was too busy melting into him to think about what he’d said. My hips rocked against his, seeking more friction. His hand slid from my hip under the t-shirt he’d put on me, skating across my bare skin.

“Theia,” he growled in my mouth. “Ti proteggerò con la mia vita.”

I pulled back, knowing we should probably slow down. It was late, and we both needed sleep.

“What does that mean?”

He brushed his nose up my cheek.

“I’ll protect you with my life.”

Jesus, does he have any idea what he’s doing to my heart?

“Gil…”

“Shh. We’ll talk about it in the morning.Voglio leccarti di nuovo la figa.”

Now he was saying things to me in Italian on purpose, so I wouldn’t know what was coming next. I couldn’t quite bring myself to care when he pressed me down onto my back and buried his face between my legs. I couldn’t think about anything at all long after he’d made me come because I fell asleep tucked up in his arms, safe and satisfied without a worry in the world. But I had a lot of things to be concerned about, not least of all, how Gil and I would navigate everything with the turmoil in our lives. One thing I knew for sure was I didn’t want to let this man go now he’d found his way into my arms. I wanted to hold on tight to the one person who made me feel secure.

I’d never had anyone like Gil Villetti before.

And I needed to keep him.

My life depended on it.

Theia was still tucked up in my bed with her hair a mess on my pillows when the buzzer for my door went. I shouldn’t have been watching her from the doorway as she slept. I couldn’t help myself. She was here. The beautiful woman I’d experienced so many firsts with last night, but it wasn’t time to dwell on it right then.

I turned away from my bedroom and walked down the hallway towards the front door. I didn’t even bother checking who it was as I pressed down on the button to let them in. Edric had sent me a text this morning informing me he was bringing breakfast. There had been no point in me arguing. He didn’t take no for an answer. The only thing I had said was to bring extra for my guest. The message I’d received back didn’t bear repeating.

I’d already set plates out on my kitchen island next to the stools, so I waited until he arrived at the front door. Edric didn’t even bother saying hello as he walked in as if he owned the damn place. The little shit treated it like his own. It was why I’d never given him a key. He would come and go as he pleased otherwise.

He set the bags he’d brought down on the counter and turned to me with a huge grin on his face.

“Please tell me the reason she’s still sleeping is ‘cause you wore her out.”

“Shut up.”

His hazel eyes twinkled.

“Knew it. I’m impressed you managed to bag such a pretty little thing with your non-existent social skills. I mean, it’s quite the feat.”
