“I like the way your mind works.”
“You can make sure we have all the evidence against her gathered for me to send with the bodies.”
He saluted.
“On it.” His eyes darted to Theia. “Is she…?”
I looked down at my girl. She’d stopped crying and was holding onto me like she never wanted to let go.
“She’ll be fine. Unless you need me, I’m going to put her to bed.”
He waved a hand.
“Nope. You do what you need, Gil. I’ll sort this out.”
I trusted him to have a handle on it. The men would deal with the mess in my penthouse and tomorrow, we could address everything else.
I stood up with Theia and carried her from my living area down the hallway to my bedroom. Shutting the door with my hip, I set her down on her feet. She stared up at me as I unzipped her dress and helped her out of it. A few minutes later, she was tucked up in bed with one of my t-shirts on after I’d cleaned her face, and me beside her. She buried herself in my arms and pressed her face against my chest, snuggling close.
“Do you really love me?” she whispered into my bare chest.
“I’m beginning to think you like questioning me every time I tell you something, since you don’t believe me at first.”
She wriggled in my grasp.
“I do not.”
“Yeah, you really do.”
“Shut up.”
I snorted and hugged her closer, burying my face in her hair.
“Are you sure you don’t need to be out there dealing with them?” she asked a moment later.
“Edric can handle it. It’s what he’s there for.” I pulled back to look at her face. “You’re more important to me, Theia.”
She let out a sigh.
“I’m just glad we’re both okay. I was so scared, but I couldn’t go back to that place.”
“You saved us all instead.”
Her cheeks went pink.
“She was going to kill you.”
I stroked her hair back from her face.
“I know. I’m proud of you for what you did. Guess you’re not so upset with me for making you learn how to shoot.”
She didn’t exactly scowl at me, but her mouth thinned.
“Doesn’t mean I want to go around shooting people on the regular. I’ll leave that to you and Edric.”
Leaning closer, I pressed a kiss to her lips.
“I’ll never make you shoot anyone again.”
