“He’s taking some time off work after being stabbed.”

“He got stabbed?”

He waved a hand.

“He’s fine. Rina is taking care of him. It’s a long story, but the situation with Martina and the girls is handled. I’ll tell you about it later.”

“Our cousin is taking care of him?”

Zayn smiled.

“Mmm. Seems being in close proximity forced them both to admit their feelings.”

I’d been aware of Rina’s crush on Arlo, but not the other way around. Then I registered Zayn’s words properly.

“Did you purposely choose him to be Martina and the girl’s bodyguard to push them together?”

“Maybe.”

I shook my head. It shouldn’t surprise me that Zayn had interfered in Arlo’s love life. Arlo had been in our lives since we were all kids, and he’d been Zayn’s constant shadow. Arlo might be his second, but they were also as close as best friends could be.

“Anyway, that doesn’t matter right now. We need to find out who let this guy in. I’m going to bet it was whoever delivered this letter.” Zayn pointed at the envelope that did not have an address on it, only Theia’s name. “I can’t imagine they persuaded more than one person who works here to do their bidding.”

He checked the next date I’d given him and started searching the footage. We focused on the camera above Theia’s door. When a man walked along the hallway and posted the letter after she’d left, my eyes narrowed on their features, and I felt sick to my stomach.

“I know him,” I said, pointing at the man.

Zayn’s expression was sour when I looked at him.

“So do I.” He pushed back his chair and stood up, straightening his sleeves. “And he has some fucking explaining to do.”

Zayn reached over to his office phone and pressed down on a couple of buttons. A moment later, a voice came on the line.

“Yes, boss?”

I recognised it as Liza, his manager’s voice.

“I need you to prepare room five with plastic sheeting. When they’re done, send Lynx in and make sure he’s secure. Then I need you to reassign all of his clients to other people and cancel any appointments he has. Do not speak to anyone else about this, especially not him. I’ll be dealing with it personally.”

“Of course, I’ll handle it right away.”

The line went dead. Zayn cracked his knuckles, then his neck before he rubbed his hands together. Clearly, Liza had dealt with this kind of situation before since she hadn’t asked Zayn any questions about why he was doing this. It hardly surprised me. They did work closely when it came to club matters.

“I take it you want to handle this,” he said as he turned to me.

“You’re letting me?”

He smiled at me before he pulled open one of his desk drawers and took out a gun.

“I’ll be asking the questions as he’s my employee. Depending on his answers, it will be up to you what we do with him.” He placed the gun in my hand. “She’s your girlfriend. You choose his fate on her behalf.”

I hadn’t brought my gun in with me from the car, having been too busy making sure my girlfriend got to work okay. Besides, I hadn’t thought I would need it. I might have a lot of weapons, like the knife currently strapped to my calf, but I didn’t get them out unless it was necessary. I could do enough damage with my bare hands if I was so inclined. I preferred not to get them dirty. It was more efficient to kill with a gun.

“I’m going to have to tell her about all of this, including what you did for her.”
