“We do?”
“Yup!” He grinned. “I can see why you fell for each other. You look like you were made for each other. But please excuse me, I need to mingle with the other summer associates and interns.”
“Uh huh.” I clenched my teeth as I tried to smile. “Can you believe that?” I looked over at Natasha. “He thinks me and that gross asshole were made for each other. What is that supposed to mean?”
“Girl, I do not know,” Natasha said, shaking her head. “I think he’s trying to be sarcastic, but maybe he was being genuine.” She made a face. “But girl, that Ben catfished you bad.”
“Tell me about it.” I groaned. “I want to tell him off so badly, but I can’t.” I sighed. “Chelsea’s on the way, though. She’s going to help me plan a public breakup.”
“Oh, juicy,” Natasha said, grinning. “That will liven this dead party up.” She took another sip of her drink. “They could at least have some music.”
“Aww, it does seem a little boring,” I agreed. I watched as Ben headed back to us with two drinks, and I sighed loudly. “I cannot get over the fact that Ben thinks what he did was okay.”
“Girl, men do not give a fuck.” Natasha pursed her lips and rolled her eyes. “They will try anything and see if they can get away with it.”
“Babe, I got you—”
“Stop calling me babe.” I grabbed the drink from him. “I’m not babe. I am Polly.”
“Whoa.” He held his hands up. “That sounded hostile, chica.” He chugged his beer. “No need to go all woke on me.”
“Me telling you not to call me babe is not me going woke,” I retorted back at him.
“I’m just saying.” He shrugged. “So when we getting out of here?”
“Where are you going?” Natasha asked him when I didn’t respond.
“Well, I was thinking we could go back to my place.” He winked at me. “I could show you my water bed.” He looked over at Natasha. “If you’re interested, you can come as well. I got some blue pills a couple of months ago. I can go all night long.”
“Nope, nope, nope.” My voice was loud now.
“Don’t be jealous, babe. You can ride the baloney pony first.” He flicked his tongue against his lips again. “Fuck, when I saw your photos online, I didn’t think you were real. But your titties look just as good in person as they did in your photos.” He chuckled. “I can’t lie, I pleasured myself to your photos a couple of times.” He winked at me. “Can’t wait to suck on those big old nipples.”
My jaw dropped, and I could see that Natasha looked shocked as well. I didn’t know what to do or say. All I knew was that this party was done for both me and Ben. There was no way I was going to keep up this ruse anymore.
“Hey, where’s my sister?” Chelsea’s voice filled the room as she came running out of the elevator like a mad woman. She was wearing a short black dress and her hair was flying behind her. “Polly Campbell, where are you?” she started screaming, and I frowned. What the hell was going on?
“I’m here, Chelsea.” I held my hand up and gawked as Chelsea came running over, her eyes wild.
“How could you, Polly?” she was crying as she screamed.
“What?” My heart thudded. I had no idea what was going on.
“How could you sleep with my man?” She looked over at Ben and started giggling for a few seconds.
“Chelsea, what…” I licked my lips nervously as she grabbed Ben and screamed at him.
“How could you sleep with my sister, Ben? I thought you told me I was the one?” She looked around the room and started bawling. “Who knew about this? Who knew my sister was sleeping with my man?”
“Chelsea.” I glared at her. Trust my sister to come up with the worst plan possible to get me out of this mess.
“Polly, is everything okay here?” Travis was suddenly beside me, and he looked concerned.
“No, it’s not!” Chelsea screamed as she stared at him. “My sister done stole my man, and I’m going to sue. I’m going to sue you all. I want ten million dollars for this betrayal. I am taking this all the way to the top.”
“To the top of what?” Travis questioned her, his lips twitching slightly.
“To the top of the legal system.” Chelsea didn’t skip a beat. “Polly, it’s me or him. Our sisterhood or his amazing lovemaking.” She paused and held her hands up in the air. “I will never forget the—”
