“Not our business, Princess.” He responded to my unasked question. It made me frown even harder that he knew what I was thinking.
“You call me bull-headed after I just purchased all of your pieces.” Sawyer shakes his head in mock disappointment, “Some people are simply ungrateful.”
“Y-you did what?” Sasha gasps, clutching her chest in shock. It’s like watching a telenovela with all the drama. I can’t look away, and neither can Lennox. It’s nice to see someone else’s drama for a change.
“Ipurchased your artwork.Sweet Sasha.” I watched as Sawyer’s green eyes darkened, and he caressed Sasha’s dark brown cheek. Her eyes closed like it was the best feeling she’d ever felt. And suddenly, I felt like I was intruding on an intimate moment that I shouldn’t have seen.
“Sasha, Sawyer,” Lennox nodded, “We’ll catch ya’ll later.” Lennox tugged on my arm and led me away, but I kept turning to look at the exchange between Sasha and Sawyer. Whatever happened between them was hot.
“Damn, babe. I really wanted to know what happened.” I pouted, and Lennox laughed.
“Sorry, Princess. But we got shit to do.” Lennox pulled me to him by the waist and dipped his head to tug my pouting lip into his mouth before devouring me with his tongue.
Lennox’s kiss was always so passionate, and every time he kissed me, I wondered how I ever lived without having his lips on mine.
CHAPTER 12
LENNOX
The past few months have been pure wedded bliss. Once I started work at BHM, Raven and I established a comfortable routine with our work schedules. I had to commend her on her work ethic and her ambitious attitude. Raven was not the socialite airhead that I thought she was.
My wife was intelligent, caring, and business-minded. Her creativity reached way beyond her interior design company, and I was amazed by her every day. I gathered the chart for my next patient, but my brain wouldn’t release images of Raven in the shower this morning.
It was a strange feeling being so caught up in a woman that she was all I thought about. In the past, work was the one thing I thought about the most. Women that I dated would never filter through my mind during work hours.
“Dr. Nash, Mr. Shaffer is ready in room one.” The director of nursing, Caroline smiled at me. She had been a godsend these past few weeks while I got a feel for my new role as Assistant Director of my department.
All of the nurses at BHM were highly qualified and willing to work. Caroline often did rounds on our floor to stay abreast of the needs of patients and doctors in our department. She wasn’t just an executive pencil pusher, and I liked that about BHM. Everyone helped where they were needed, and that’s why this was a prestigious hospital. Nobody was too good to do the work.
“Thanks, Caroline.” I nodded with a smile as I headed in to see my last patient for the day. Even though I had a full caseload by neurology standards, I still had to do administrative work. So most mornings were reserved for patients or surgeries.
My sub-specialty in neurosurgery is skull and spinal. I tend to work with patients that have had some sort of trauma, usually from an accident or tumors. The skill and care that it takes to treat these patients can be time consuming and stressful.
But I got into the medical field to save lives, and to help people that others had given up on. With the technology available at BHM I am able to do surgeries I could only dream of at the community facility I worked at before.
“Mr. Shaffer, how are you feeling today?” I asked the middle-aged man who had intelligent light brown eyes and a weary smile.
“As good as expected, I guess.” He answered with a shrug of his slim shoulders.
I went through the procedure of checking his vitals, and preparing him for what was to come for his surgery the next day. It was his pre-op appointment, and rightfully so, Mr. Shaffer was nervous.
A small tumor was found on the base of his spinal cord, when he complained of persistent back pain. He is a fifty-five-year-old father of two and a husband who had never had any major health problems before. It was my job to remove the tumor and make sure he would come out of this on the other side.
I would do everything in my power to make sure that Mr. Shaffer was here to see his son graduate from college and walk his daughter down the aisle for her wedding day. It was a heavy burden that I would gladly carry.
After I finished with Mr. Shaffer, I visited a few of my patients that were in recovery, and I went back to my office. When I returned, my beautiful wife was waiting for me. Typically, Raven was just as busy as me, so seeing her during the day was a rare occurrence.
“Well, this is a pleasant surprise.” I walked into my office shutting the door. She stood up and gave me a slow sensual kiss. I groaned into her mouth and slid my large hands down to grip her round, firm ass.
“Ummm. Hello to you too, Dr. Nash.” Raven smiled as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
“Mrs. Nash, are you here for an afternoon quickie?” I smirked down into her lovely face. Raven giggled as she pulled back and slapped my chest playfully.
“No, silly. I came to bring you lunch,” Raven replied pulling out of my embrace and turned to my desk where she had laid out a spread of mini-grilled panini with mozzarella cheese, tomato, and crushed red pepper with a side of thin-cut fries. There were two bottles of sparkling water and a slice of cheesecake for dessert.
Raven had never brought me lunch, and although she was dressed in business attire with a dark purple pencil skirt and a lavender blouse that tied around her neck, my wife looked effortlessly beautiful, but she was up to something.
“Wow, what’s the occasion?” I asked curiously.
