“I think I need a few of these before I join the drunken crowd.”

“Fair enough.” I clink my glass against hers and utter, “Same. I’m definitely not tipsy enough yet.”

Now that we’re within touching distance, I seriously can’t take my eyes off her. Her green eyes sparkle, making me want to study her face. Her sweet smile, plump lips, long neck… ooh I just want to nibble it.

“What a wedding,” I chuckle as I sidle a little closer. “Did you enjoy it?”

“Seeing my best friend, Allegra, so happy made me very happy too.”

“Ah, so you’re the best friend… Laura, right?” I remember Adam telling me about her.

“Lexi. My name is Lexi,” she shoots back, unimpressed that I called her the wrong name.

I nod along, liking the way her actual name rolls around in my brain.Lexi.It suits her. Especially with the little fire burning in her gaze. “Well, I’m Frederico… nice to meet you, Lexi.”

“Your reputation precedes you. I’ve already heard all about you, Mr. D’Amici.”

Ooh, now I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing. Allegra and I get along just fine, but if she wants to protect her best friend then she might have warned her off me. But then Allegra is drunk and obsessed with her husband right now. She isn’t looking our way and Lexi is smiling like all she wants to do is see me naked, despite my reputation…

Hell, it’s better that she knows who I am. That way there won’t be any confusion. I offer her my hand and she shakes it, the walls coming down just a little. There’s still some hesitation but I’m not worried. This is going to be a whole lot of fun.

Finally we’re on the dance floor, getting all hot and heavy among the crowd. No one is paying any attention to us at all. They are all lost in their own fun allowing Lexi to let loose a little. As wild as her curls have become is as wild as she is. I love it. The more we dance, the more carefree we become, and it’s intoxicating.

She grinds up against me, growing closer by the moment, even hooking her arm around the back of my neck. But what really locks us onto one another, blocking out the rest of the world, is the intensity of our eye contact. I can’t take my eyes off hers for even a second.

I don’t actually know who makes the first move. Is it me dipping my head down or is it her rising on tiptoes to draw nearer to me? Either way, the magnetic pull is tugging and both of us are powerless to resist. Even if it means we end up in trouble with the bride and groom, we can’t stop. It’s out of our hands now; we’re in too deep.

Claiming Lexi with my mouth feels so much better than I had expected. I’ve felt the intense chemistry bubbling between us all day long so I knew kissing her would be pleasurable. I didn’t expect the fireworks to be quite as overwhelming however.

Holy shit, if this is what kissing Lexi is like, I can’t wait to experience more. I cup her cheeks in my hands and deepen the kiss, invading her mouth with my tongue. She responds just as passionately, just as excitedly, almost wrapping herself around me as she does. The rest of the room simply melts into nothingness; it’s only me and her in this room. My entire body drowns in flames as I get what I want and I love every moment of it.

“It’s time for the bride and groom to head off on their honeymoon now.” The voice of the DJ causes us to jump apart. “Let’s all wish them well.”

Lexi appears as breathless as I feel. She rests her hand on her chest as she attempts to pull herself together. I want to reach out and hold her hand so we can bask in this glow together but if we’re waving Alex and Allegra off, then I should probably wait. We’d best send them off without any worries about me and Lexi. But we still stand stupidly close to one another as we wave off the happy couple for their journey into married life.

I have to admit that they do look overjoyed, like they are heading off to a new adventure rather than something that will only destroy them from the inside out. I guess some peopledoget the happily ever after. Just because I didn’t, shouldn’t make me bitter for everyone else, right?

“Do you want to get out of here?” I whisper to Lexi. “My condo isn’t far.”

I can sense the hesitation but I already know that Lexi will nod before she does. There’s no way she can resist the moment just as much as I can’t. We’re intoxicated by each other.

“Sure,” she says with a soft smile as she bites down on her bottom lip. “Sounds nice.”

We could stick around and dance some more - many other people are. Italian weddings often continue long into the next morning but that doesn’t mean we have to stay. Without the threat of Adam and Allegra catching us, things will get way too hot and heavy on the dance floor, anyway. I’m pretty sure we’re much safer behind closed doors.

I call my car and take Lexi’s hand at long last as we head outside. The chill catches Lexi in her thin dress so I immediately give her my suit jacket to keep her warm.

“Ooh nice, thank you,” she giggles as she nestles into the jacket looking absolutely adorable as she wraps the jacket tighter around her shoulders. “This is gorgeous.”

“It should be, for the price of it,” I laugh in agreement. “But since it suits you way better than me, I think you should keep it on.”

“Oh yeah?” She spins around like she’s on a catwalk showing off her outfit. “It’s going to be the ‘in’ look this spring so you better get used to it.”

“I have the jacket but I don’t have the dress. I best get one fast.”

“Right, in this exact color because it’ll sell out fast. Lilac is in.”
