“You,” she says breathily, and a feral grin twists on my lips.
“Done. Give me an hour and we’ll be there,” I tell her, tension bleeding from my muscles.
I catch the giant‘I told you so’grin on Ripley’s face and the smug as shit one on River’s, which makes me roll my eyes and flip them both the bird.
Fuckers.
“Okay. Um, and maybe, if you don’t mind, bring me some of your things? Ones that smell like you?” Shade says, almost cautiously.
My chest puffs up at the thought of her wanting items that smell like me in her nest. It’s a heady feeling, and damn if it doesn’t make me feel ten feet tall.
“You got it,” I tell her softly.
“Okay, well… I’ll see you soon, then. Third floor, very last apartment at the end of the hall,” she says before hanging up.
My hand falls to my lap, and I just stare at Ripley and River for a moment in shock.
“Did that really just happen?” I whisper.
“Hell fucking yes, it did! Now get your ass in gear because it sounds like you’ve got somewhere to be,” Ripley squeals, bouncing excitedly in River’s arms, which has him giving her a heated look as his eyes latch onto her chest.
“Anything specific we should take for this?” I ask them both as I get up, rubbing my palms against the legs of my jeans.
“Plenty of each of your things that smell heavily of you. Refreshments and a ton of water, which you already know! Gabey, you’re an omega. You know most of what she’s going to want and need. You’ve got this,” Ripley says with a laugh.
“Right. You’re right. Okay, I’ve gotta call everyone. Thanks, you two. I’ll talk later!” I rush out, practically running from the room to the front door.
“I expect a full report withallthe juicy details when it’s over! Maybe I’ll get some new ideas,” Ripley shouts at my back, making me grin and shake my head.
Just before the front door shuts behind me, I can hear Ripley squeal and then her tinkling laughter follows.
As I hop in my car and start backing out, I call my alphas. Let’s hope our talk the last night prepared them enough for this eventuality.
ChapterSeven
Shade
A herd of elephants stampede in my belly as I grin and drop my phone to the floor. Then I look around my nest and groan. No way do I want Gabriel and his alpha to show up here with it looking like this.
I quickly drop to my knees and start weaving everything back together, feeling much more at ease with this decision. It’s like Gabriel agreeing so easily has taken all the agitation I was feeling away, leaving me calmer and not quite as hostile.
My nest is reassembled in record time, and now I’m just missing something of theirs. That’ll make this nest perfect and complete.
As I’m admiring my handiwork, I hear raised voices out in my living room. It makes me stiffen, and my ears prick to listen. I growl when I hear Tyler.
Of course.
I get up and walk to the door, cracking it open so I can hear better and peek out through the opening. Tyler is by the front door scowling at Micah, who’s standing in front of him with his arms folded and a resolute look on his face.
“She doesn’t want us, dude. Us being here is only agitating her, and she’s already called someone else,” Micah tells him calmly.
“Bullshit,” Tyler growls.
“No, not bullshit. She said no, and that’s all I needed to hear. Now we’re going to leave.”
“Fuck that. I haven’t been called in for a heat in months. I need the money, and I want my fucking knot squeezed. That omega cunt won’t be able to object when she’s deep in her heat. She’ll be begging for my knot.”
Micah growls, spreading his legs, dropping his arms, and taking on a defensive stance. My breathing stalls in my lungs at the cavalier way Tyler essentially said he’d take my choice away from me.
