“I’m here!” I shout at the door between heaving breaths. “Gimme a second!”

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” Dominic croons as he reaches the mouth of the alley, disappearing into the dark.

I yank my skirt down, steadying myself as I pick up my stuff. My legs are still shaking from my denied orgasm. I angrily shove the walkie talkie into my apron, along with my gun that’s soaked with… me.

Cocky asshole. He’s probably got a big fucking smile on his face, too. And he thinks he gets to just saunter back here tomorrow and get whatever he wants?

Yeah right.

DOMINIC

Nox Nightclub

Sofie.Beautifulname.

It was one of the last things I caught before I slipped into the shadows.

I hated being away the few days after our very first meeting, but Theo needed my help setting up the lab. Under the cover of night, we scrounged up all the supplies that we could, all while trying to stay under the radar. It was exhausting work, but seeing Sofie last night was the reward.

She was even better than the fantasies that had been brewing inside of my head. She’s cold and abrasive, exactly what keeps me coming back. I like a woman who pushes my buttons. Some might say it’s a character flaw, but I know what gets me off.

Everything about her was intoxicating, from the way she moved to the way she whined when I fucked her with her own gun. Maybe I should have taken that instead of her panties that are now wrapped around my knuckles. I wonder if that gun is resting against her thigh right now.

And after a taste like that? Nothing could keep me away from her.

I need her.

I need more.

And so I’m back at Nox all over again.

Small crowds of people move around me, but I don’t pay much attention to them. My eyes are on her and the gorgeous hair that flows all the way down her back. And those eyes? So heavenly, I can see them clear as day through darkness.

She’s the kind of beautiful that makes my legs wobble and wish that my heart could flutter. Instead, all I feel is a pull in the center of my chest, like a magnet. My fists clench as desire pumps through me, my claws digging into my palms as blood pools beneath them.

What the fuck is happening to me?

Vampires have a natural magnetism, but it’s nothing like in the movies. We’re expert hunters, excellent at charming people, and obviously skilled in using sex to our advantage. Unsurprisingly, everyone tastes better when you’re making them come.

I stride toward the bar, making my way through a thick crowd of vampires on the dance floor. Some of them catch my eye, backing up a little to make room. There’s an empty seat right in front of her, with no Drake-replacement to remove.

Perfect. Things are already going my way.

She slides a shot and a glass of whiskey to another patron, looking up as I hop onto the stool. She’s dressed in a tight red latex dress that leaves nothing to the imagination. The fine hairs on her arm stand on end the second our eyes meet. She’s giving herself away.

“You’re back.”

The sound of her voice is nearly swallowed up by the rhythmically thumping music. Her co-worker slips behind her, dark hair with a black leather jacket and a lace bra. I sort of remember her from the other night. She has a disarmingly bright smile that makes me smile right back at her.

“Sorry, Sof, I need another bag of O negative,” she announces, resting a hand on Sofie’s hip.

Sofie moves out of the way, staring straight at me as her friend grabs a couple of large bags from below the bar, and moves back to her station.

I return her gaze, refusing to take my eyes off of her the entire time.

I wonder if that’s her real name, or just something she uses for work.

“I promised I’d be back, didn’t I?”
