“I listened to the girl give the address and it wasn’t Winry’s, but we can swing by her place if you want to check on her,” Owen says, pulling out of the Bluebird’s parking lot.
“Yeah, if we could.” I keep it short because I am still on edge.
I don’t think I unclench my jaw the entire drive over, and I definitely don’t say anything to Owen. He knows I’m pissed, so he keeps his mouth shut too. We pull into my apartment, and I can see that her lights are still on, so I hop out.
“I’ll be right back,” I say bluntly, closing the door behind me.
I walk up and I can hear the TV going, so I knock on the door. I hear her yelp inside. A smile immediately tugs at my face. “Winry, it’s just me. Open up.”
I hear her shuffle to the door and pull it open. She looks so cute. Her hair is in a messy bun, and she is wearing one of my sweatshirts with some pajama shorts. “Hey, what’s going on? Is everything okay?” Worry mars her face.
I debate telling her about the run-in with Flynn. Part of me wants to tell her, but the other part of me doesn’t want to freak her out. I don’t want her being anxious all night, especially since I can’t be there with her, but I don’t want to keep things from her either. I decide it’s best to wait to tell her later, so I just say, “Yeah, everything is fine, I just saw your lights on and wanted to see my little night owl.”
A smile brightens her face, and she steps closer, wrapping her arms around my waist. I pull her in tighter and rest my head on the top of hers. I take in a deep breath, and I am met with the smells of peaches and honey. The smell will forever be tied to her; I don’t think I could smell or eat either without being turned on.
“Aw, this has to be the cutest thing I have ever seen,” Owen hollers as he rolls down his window.
Winry and I both flip him the bird and he bursts out laughing.
“All right, I’d better go. Get some sleep, okay?” I cup her chin, placing my thumb in her dimple.
“Sure thing, Dad.” She rolls her eyes playfully, then smirks.
“Don’t get sassy with me, buttercup, I’ll make sure you pay for it.” I tighten my grip on her chin.
“Exactly what I am hoping for, now kiss me like you want to do something about it.”
I lean in and kiss her; it’s not a gentle kiss, it’s hard and demanding. Her lips part, and I explore her mouth with my tongue. She tastes like wine, and my pants start to feel tight.
“In case you two forgot, I am still here,” Owen yells, interrupting us. “As much as I enjoy the show, we’ve got to go.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll think of you when I break out my vibrator tonight.” Winry purrs and gives me a playful push out the door.
“You just love to torture me, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I do, now go before I pull you in here and give Owen a real show.” She winks.
“So naughty. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, buttercup.”
“Okay, be safe.” She gives me one last quick kiss.
“Always. Good night.”
Back in the car with Owen, I wait for the teasing to start. I know he’s got jokes ready to go, but I don’t care. He can say whatever he wants; it won’t affect me. Nothing is going to change how I feel about her.
“Feel better?” Owen asks, backing out of my driveway.
“Yeah, thanks. I don’t think I would have been in the right headspace had I not checked on her,” I admit.
“You tell her about running into Flynn?” He seems to have the same hesitation in his voice.
“No, I will tell her tomorrow. I didn’t want her to worry about it all night and be paranoid.” I think I will be worried enough for the both of us.
“I’d say that is a good call. She really has you wrapped around her finger, doesn’t she?” Owen smiles.
“Yeah, she does. I’m not going to even bother lying about it.” Call me whipped, I don’t care.
Owen claps my shoulder. “That’s good, I’m happy for you.”
