Dex nods, wringing his hands together. “Think so. I’m really excited about this.”

I meet Wyatt’s gaze and he gestures for me to continue. “Well, we’re in.”

Dex’s mouth drops as he slides his palms over the desk. “Seriously?”

“Dude, we told you before that we were in,” Wyatt reminds him with a chuckle.

“Well, I know, but…I don’t know. I guess I just…I can’t believe this is really happening. This is incredible.” He rounds the desk, taking a turn to pull us both in for one of those man hugs, clapping us on the back. “I can’t thank you enough.”

“Ah, shit.” Wyatt tugs his ringing phone out of his pocket and glances up at us. “Sorry, guys. Gotta take this.” He sighs as he walks out the door. “Hi Mom.”

Dex leans on his desk, staring down at me, pensive. I know that look.

I sweep my hands out in front of me. “Go ahead, Dex. What’s on your mind?” I’m ninety-nine percent sure I already know.

He grins, skimming his jaw with his fingers. “You know Claire.” It’s not a question.

“I do.”

“How?”

“Met her Friday night. She was out with some friends.”

“Did you two…” His eyebrows climb his forehead in question.

“Nah.” I kick my feet out in front of me. “I won’t lie—I wanted to. She’s…” Gorgeous? Sexy as sin? Sassy? It’s impossible to choose just one.

“I know,” he says on an exhale. Clearly, he doesn’t need me to finish my sentence.

I eye him curiously. There’s an odd dynamic between those two. “You two ever hook up?”

Chuckling, he plops down in the chair behind his desk, lacing his fingers behind his head. “Once. Three years ago.”

I have to admit, I’m a little bit jealous. I’m also wondering how the hell someone manages just once with Claire. I mean, I haven’t had sex with her, but if our brief encounter is any indication, the sex would be wild. “Only once? Not worth a second trip around the block?” Even I feel like an asshole asking that question.

“The sex was fantastic if that’s what you’re asking. I mean, you’ve met her. She’s…”

“Feisty?”

He laughs. “Yeah.”

“Mmm. So why only once then?”

He sighs, scratching at the gold scruff lining his jaw. “I’ve known Claire since she was eight. She’s like my little sister. And she is my little sister’s best friend.”

My brows shoot up. “Charlee?”

He nods. “You know her?”

“Met her Friday. And again out front this morning.”

“Yeah, she runs marketing here. And party planning,” he adds with an eyeroll. “Claire moved out here to work for me, and I took her out her first night to celebrate. We had way too much to drink and acted on impulse. She regretted it immediately, said we never should have crossed that line.”

“Did you?” I ask. “Regret it?”

His lips curl with a secret smile. “Does she look like the type of girl anyone would ever regret?”

Nope. Definitely not. And I’m still jealous.
