I released my seatbelt and shifted forward and got to work. It only took me a minute to have his presets organized in numerical order, like mine.
“There,” I said. “All set.”
“Feel better?”
“Much.”
We got out of the car and Simon removed the bikes from the rack. He opened the back passenger door and retrieved two helmets and handed one to me. I don’t like wearing hats of any kind, but this one is a necessary evil.
I took the scrunchie out of my hair and slipped it onto my wrist.
“This isn’t going to be pretty.”
I tucked my hair behind my ears and put the helmet on then snapped the chinstrap into place.
“You look adorable, as always.”
I almost blurted out “Love is blind,” but thankfully caught myself.
“And you are too kind,” I said instead.
“Not kind, just truthful.” He gave me a quick kiss then stepped back to put on his helmet. “Ready to hit the trail?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
I grabbed the handlebars, then carefully mounted the bike and put my right foot on the
pedal. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, but after getting off to a wobbly start, I found my balance.
As I slowly moved along the trail, Simon stayed by my side, matching my pace which I appreciate. Brian never wanted to do anything like this with me because he said I was too slow. Even if we just went shopping, he was five feet in front of me. At first, I rushed to keep up, but after a few years just kept to my own pace.
“I’ve never been on this trail. It’s pretty,” I said, shaking my ex from my thoughts.
“It’s a great place to ride a bike. I hate riding on the street because drivers don’t respect the bike lanes, if there even is one. And the trails at the state parks are a little more intense. It’s nice to just come here and ride without working too hard.”
“I’m all about not working too hard.”
“You pole dance. That’s not exactly easy.”
“It’s not.” I shrugged. “But it’s funny, I never think of it as exercise. Not like hiking, biking, or jogging anyway.”
Simon pulled in front of me so the family of four coming toward us could easily get by. Once they passed, he slowed down so we were side-by-side again.
“Speaking of pole dance,” he said. “I never asked what Zoe said when you told her we’re dating.”

Keera glancedover at me and I knew the answer to my question without her saying a word. She hit a small bump and jerked her head to look straight ahead and gained control of her bike.
I spotted a bench in the near distance and nudged my head in its direction.
“Let’s take a break.”
Pulling over to the side, I got off my bike and held Keera’s handlebars as she got off hers. She walked around and shook out her legs, then stretched forward and touched her toes. I was enjoying the view and felt a little bummed when she straightened to look at me.
“I’m glad we stopped. I didn’t realize my butt was numb.”
She wiggled her ass and I couldn’t resist touching her for another second. I walked over and pulled her into my arms. Our helmets bumped as I pressed my lips to hers. I tilted my head and opened my mouth wider, deepening the kiss as I pulled her against me. Moving my hands down her back, I cupped her ass and squeezed. Keera’s moan vibrated against my chest and her leg wrapped around my calf as she pressed closer.
