Morpheus came to sleep with them, but even then, it took a long time for Logan’s breathing to settle and indicate he was finally asleep. Sammy was the one unable to get any shut-eye, drifting in and out of shallow sleep, sick with worry over his lover.
Sammy had drifted off in a blank dreamless state in the early hours of the morning, only to be woken up by Morpheus licking his face. He chuckled then and looked around suddenly scared they were alone, but Logan was still on the bed with his back turned to him.
Sammy shoved Morpheus gently off the bed and reached for Logan’s shoulder and tugged at him carefully. He flopped onto his back with a sigh, and Sammy could see his eyes were red rimmed from crying.
“Baby, are you okay?”
He swallowed hard, then turned to face Sammy and barely whispered, his voice trembling, “I just fucking stood there. I didn't tell her to stop calling you names. I said nothing. I don't know… I am so scared I’ll lose you because I’m so useless.”
“Baby––”
“Please, just let me––”
Sammy gave him a slight nod and let him finish.
“I’m not going to get better overnight, I know that. But I swear to you, I will never stop trying to be better for you. I love you so much. I don’t want to lose you.”
“You’re not going to. I’m not going anywhere.” He giggled and hastily added, wiping one treacherous tear away, “I just moved in for fuck’s sake.” He grinned at Logan and his deflection made both of them chuckle. “I love you.”
Logan shimmied over, tugging Sammy to himself so his head rested on his chest. “Let’s stay in bed all day. I’ll get your laptop from the car, and we can watch some epic long-ass movie and eat snacks in bed. Like we did when I came to see you that first time in New York.”
Sammy could feel the weight of yesterday slowly rolling away from his chest. No, this wasn’t going to be the end of it, and they certainly weren’t going to forget all about it that easily, but the house was their protective bubble and today of all days hiding from the world was the only option.
* * *
Logan was napping, snoring quietly, Morpheus snuggled up on his side. Sammy looked over at them lovingly and his heart fluttered. Months ago, this much happiness would have scared him and sent him running for the hills. As if being loved and loving someone unconditionally was the worst possible thing that could ever happen to him. He was almost glad about the terrible episode they had both lived through yesterday. The horrible encounter only made everything between them seem so very real.
He ran his fingers through Logan’s hair with a sigh, then went on to check his email and to edit some photos for Stef and Dave. He had an inquiry about the book. It was a small company that packed boxes with aesthetically themed items, and his book had caught their eye with his winter wonderland concept between the city and the thick forest around Logan’s home. They were offering to do a trial run, and if the orders were high enough to permanently include the book as a stand-alone purchase on their site. They mentioned, they would love to buy any other aesthetic books he might be working on, giving him the option to place them for pre-orders, thus getting paid in advance for his work.
Truth be told, he had so much fun putting this book together, he definitely wanted to develop something based on the same concept, but with different text and images. He got all excited contemplating the possibilities and his mind went in overdrive sifting through various ideas he had been putting on the back burner for ages. This new endeavour would definitely require some serious planning and space big enough to set up a workstation of sorts.
He looked around the bedroom. It was freaking cozy, and he loved everything about it. He may not have believed in spirits, but he felt there was a reason he never dreaded sleeping or making love to Logan there.
However, as much as he loved the space, it was tiny when it came to his work stuff. Logan had offered him his office, and that was great and awfully thoughtful of him, but the reality was, Sammy wanted his lover to get back to work. Taking over his space of business would hinder that significantly.
After the terrible dinner get-together Logan had had with his family, he had simply asked Dave for a job. Dave hadn’t hesitated to hire him to help him out in his repair shop. He had been in need of someone to handle the paperwork in the office while he worked on cars. This way, Dave made it home on time and Logan slowly eased back into professional life.
He had mentioned Dave wanted to venture into motorcycle services as well, and Logan had spoken very excitedly about the ideas he had. His eyes had lit up and he had shown Sammy so many images of motorcycles he had purchased over the years then restored in his free time with Dave’s help.
Some of the machines were sold for profit others donated to be sold for local charities. Whatever the end plan it was something he had greatly enjoyed doing. That had been his hobby and he was very passionate about it. Needless to say, he hadn’t touched a single part or machine for the past few years, but now, it just seemed he was ready to embrace all sorts of new and existing possibilities.
Thus, Sammy was office-less, and they needed to figure something out because he couldn’t have his equipment roll about unsecured from Morpheus. He felt guilty for suspecting the big bullmastiff in future mischief. He looked at him, as if to make sure his thoughts hadn’t been spoken out loud possibly hurting Morph’s feelings. However, Morpheus proved him correct in his suspicions as he was lightly chewing on the hem of Logan’s t-shirt while his lover slept. He was pretty sure there was a hole there already but resolved to let him be for now.
He chuckled and decided to raise the question of sorting out a space for a workstation somewhere in the house. He went on to email his landlord and let them know he was going to vacate his apartment.
He shimmied out of the bedroom to make himself a cup of tea and called James.
“How’s the forest life treating you?”
Sammy rolled his eyes. “It’s not like we are camping you moron. When you come visit us one day, you’ll see it’s pretty awesome out here.”
James was silent for a beat, then he huffed a laugh. “I fucking knew it!” There were some muffled sounds around him, and then he could hear James saying, “Pay up!”
“What is happening over there?”
“Uh…”
More muffled sounds and finally the FaceTime was on, and he saw Danika’s flat resting bitch face glaring at him. “Now that we are besties,” she drawled, “I should tell you I’m disappointed with how quickly you gave up the goods.”
