In a moment of blissful climax, our bodies release, surrendering to the overwhelming rush of pleasure that washes over us. Moans and gasps mingle in the air, a melody of raw ecstasy that echoes through the room.

There is banging on the door this morning. The sound startles us as we both get out of bed.

Whoever is banging the door is someone Troy doesn't have control over, leaving me with two guesses: Henry or Mrs. Robinson.

I stay behind Troy as he opens the smart lock, and we both sigh in relief. It is Mrs. Robinson. She walks past us, demanding not to see us almost naked.

When Troy and I wear more comfortable clothes, we are back in the living room with Troy's mother, who still doesn't hide how much she hates me. "I heard George Howard is out of town," she reveals. "I guess you have done what I asked you to do?"

Troy clicks his tongue, "No," he says as Mrs. Robinson frowns. I can see that Troy is enjoying the expression on his mother's face. She blinks, darting her eyes from me back to Troy.

"You disobey your mother for what? A wet vagina?" Mrs. Robinson starts. "What other possible way could you have told me you are fucking her without messing up the family business for her sake."

"No!" Troy says. "It's for your sake. I am cleaning up your mess here."

Mrs. Robinson inhales, "What did you do, Troy?" she asks. "What did you do!"

Troy stands up to pick up the document I signed last night. “What you should have done a long time ago.” He gives the document to his mother. “I made the Howard family a shareholder in the hospital.”

Mrs. Robinson looks like she will have a heart attack at the news. "I am not you, Mom," Troy replies. "I can't do what you asked me to do."

Mrs. Robinson scoffs, "You think the board will accept this? Just one phone call, I can tell them to raise a motion against your decision. Do you know what that means? You cease to be the hospital's CEO, and Henry can take your place."

I am not sure Mrs. Robinson is bluffing, but Troy doesn't look bothered about her threat.

He walks closer to her and pauses before saying, "Not if I got them to accept it first." From Mrs. Robinson's pale face, I can tell she is threatened by her son.

Mrs. Robinson takes her purse as stands up to leave. She stops after taking two steps. She turns to Troy. "I underestimated you, Troy. I did. You are just like your father.”

“I know,” Troy replies as his mother angrily storms out of the house.

He turns to me with a hug, “We finally did it, Camile.”

I feel bad seeing Troy forced to go against his mother because of me, but right now, I live in the moment of being one of the shareholders at the biggest hospital in Wallace.

Chapter twenty-one

Fixing It Up

Troy

Mother rarely comes to the hospital. She doesn't need to be at there to know what is happening. Aside from the occasional fill-in I give her, she has other eyes in the hospital.

But today, she is here to see for herself as Camile is introduced to the board as George Howard's daughter and the newest shareholder in the hospital.

Mother walks past me into the conference room. She says nothing, but only listens to what others say. Unfortunately for her, no one objects to Camile's presence at the meeting, making her even madder.

After the meeting, I went back to my office and was surprised to see Mother enter. "I thought you had left already," I say, trying to start a conversation. But my angry mother says nothing as she takes the seat across from me.

"You won," she says. "I have to admit it, Troy. I underestimated you. But you won already, and I must give it to you. You outsmarted me."

I look at Mother as she speaks. She asks me, "Do you plan to marry her?" She drops the question I have been avoiding for weeks. Camile! Do I plan to marry Camile? The six months contract is over already, and I do not know what to do with Camile. But now Mother is here, asking me the question I dread to ask.

I haven't figured it all out yet. Mother can read me like a book and scoffs as she confirms her suspicion.

"You don't know?" She chuckles. "You don't know what you want from her, yet you went through hell to get her into the hospital's board." Mother stands up to announce, "You are just like your father."
