"But," I start to protest, and Troy stops me.

"Not everyone can fall in love like we did." My breath catches as Troy tells me for the second time that he is in love with me.

Troy leaves for work, not making any promises about us staying together after the contract gets over, but we are living in the moment - this moment - promising to stay together as long as we can.

Amelia is finally back from her so-called honeymoon, and she beams a bright smile, one I haven't seen in a long time. The pressure from the rumor is dying, and I walk freely into the hospital without observing people gossiping about me.

"Are you okay?" Amelia asks. "You seem bothered about something. Is it Troy again? Is Mrs. Robinson still giving you a hard time?"

I shake my head. "I am worried about you," I say. "I have to tell you something." I exhale loudly. "Henry is cheating on you." I tell her that I had seen him go into a hotel with a woman who is not her, but Amelia doesn't seem to be bothered about it.

"I know," Amelia says, "…it's been going on before we married."

I stare at her and wonder how she can be so cool about Henry cheating on her. Troy is right, after all. She is aware of the situation, and is cool with it.

Amelia reminds me of the forced proximity between them, but from her saddened face, I know she isn't telling me everything.

“Are you in love with Henry already?” I ask Amelia; her eyes don't deny my suspicion. “Oh, dear!”

I pull her close for an embrace. She shakes her head. "It's just mere feelings," she scoffs, trying to make the situation less sad. "I will get over it in time."

Holding her tighter, I sigh. "What are the Robinson brothers doing to us both?" I say, and Amelia chuckles at my joke. "You will be okay, right?"

Amelia nods, but I am sure we both know she will not be okay anytime soon. We also know that falling in love with any of the brothers won't end well.

Mother's text drops in as Amelia talks about what Henry does with her in her free moments. But from the look on my face, Amelia is really asking me what is wrong. I answer, "Mother just texted me to come to the house."

Amelia smiles as she asks if that is a bad thing, but I tell her something feels off in her texts. It can only mean that Mother is nervous about something. "Do you want me to go with you?" Amelia offers, but I decline as I tell her that I'd love to go there alone.

Mother's door opens as I get to her house; a stranger is sitting in her kitchen while she hurriedly takes me to a corner.

"Are you okay? Is the fatigue back? Are you reacting to your medications?" I just asked too many questions in one go.

She tells me that she is okay, but she wants me to meet someone sitting at the kitchen table – it is my father.

My eyes widen as I hear Mother speak. She swears that she didn’t reach out to him. “He just knocked at my door, and he won’t leave until he sees you.”

"I don't want to see him," I say. I leave before he can see me, but it is too late.

I hear the man call my name, "Camile?" he says, and I stop walking.

I clench my shaking fists as I turn around to see a tall, blue-eyed man that Mother tells me is my father.

Clarity

Troy

I am starting to get worried about Camile and how she feels after seeing me on the national news dead-eyed, debunking our marriage. Although she hasn't taken offense, I wonder if she understands or is only pretending.

She hasn't returned home after seeing her mother, which makes me curious to know if she is avoiding me or misses her mom that much.

I rub my eyes from the strain of staring at my phone for so long, hoping to see Camile's call. My fingers hurt from the times I had to call her. I call Amelia, who tells me that Camile isn't answering her calls, Fuck! I have never been so worried about a woman in my entire life. Now, I must swallow my pride and meet her at her mother's house.

I take the car keys, relieving my driver of his duty, and drive through the busy street of Wallace.

Camile sits across from her mother as I knock on the transparent door. Her eyes are bloodshot, and what catches my attention is the man standing next to Camile.
