That danger isn’t over yet. Or maybe it is, but I just can’t remember ending it.

I turn to fully face Aden, abandoning the shower for now. Information trumps getting clean. At least for the moment. “Any sign of trouble?”

He shakes his head.

I frown. “I don’t remember killing Rylan, so we need to assume he and others survived. Until we know for certain, we need to set up night watches so—”

Aden snorts, interrupting me. “What did you think I was doing awake at one in the morning? We’ve been taking it in turns. One of us stays with Saige, the other sleeps, and—”

A whistle drifts up the stairs.

One I wasn’t expecting to hear. I stare at Aden. “What the fuck is he doing here?”

“Leandro?” Aden unwinds his arms to scratch his scalp. “Doing his best to provoke Kade into killing him.”

“He was going to a hotel suite.” That I remember. He couldn’t wait to get as far as possible from me after Rylan’s threats to eviscerate us. “Why is he here?”

Aden shrugs. “Said he was bored.”

“So, you have him doing what, exactly?” I pin him with a stare.

He takes in my expression and hesitates. “We needed another pair of eyes.”

My wolf bares his teeth. “You have him watching her.”

“We didn’t know you were even still alive.” He lowers his head and glances away. It was always the plan, but it’s clear, that two days later, he’s still feeling guilty over it. “So we—”

My wolf snarls. “Tell me you didn’t have Leandro watching Saige?”

Silence

They left Leandro in a room with Saige.

Alone with the brother I walked in to find fucking my mate because there was a pair of shoes she liked, and her father wouldn’t buy them for her.

Saige.

When she was asleep.

Helpless.

“Dariel.”

The wariness in Aden’s voice draws my attention to my low growl filling the room.

“Oh, hey there, beautiful.” Leandro’s voice is high with surprise. “Going somewhere?”

All our bedrooms are on the same floor because when we bought this house, we wanted to stay close. After living practically in each other’s pockets in tiny apartments, the thought of spreading ourselves over the two top floors didn’t feel right to any of us. When I hear the soft tread of steps a few feet away, I know exactly where they’re headed.

I take my hand off the bathroom door, duck into the closet, and step into a pair of black sweatpants before I go investigate what Saige is doing and then kill Leandro before he can put his hand on Saige. If he hasn’t already.

Leandro pops his head out of the room that used to belong to Monica. I’ll think about how I feel about that later. He’s wearing my clothes, but that’s another thing to deal with later. I continue down the carpeted hallway to Kade’s open bedroom door.

CHAPTER 24

KADE

Ayawn sneaks out before I can strangle it.
