A piece of golden-brown toast suddenly blocks my view of the temptation that is Kade.
“Here, eat, Saige. Kade quit making everything about—”
Kade snatches the toast from Aden’s hand and winks at me. “My cock?”
“That’s what you wanted to feed me?” I ask, looking away, hoping he can’t see the redness on my cheeks.
“What did you think I meant?” Kade murmurs.
I shrug. “Bacon.”
His fingers grip my chin and turn my head back to him. “And would you have opened your mouth for it?”
“I don’t know. How big would the piece have been?” I ask, eyebrow raised.
“Jeez, you two are as bad as each other,” Aden mutters with a smile in his voice.
I glance over at him to find he’s sitting on the counter with his breakfast in one hand and his fork in the other. “What do you mean? You said I shouldn’t take what he said at face value.”
“When he’s talking about his cock, always take it at face value,” he says, his lips twitching.
I feel Kade’s gaze heat the side of my face, but I don’t dare look at him for fear of what he will say next. “Where is Dariel?” I ask, a little desperately.
Aden’s smile freezes. “Around.”
I closed my door last night before I went to bed, but in those few hours I’d been asleep, he still could have opened it, walked over to the bed, and blown air right in my face, and I would never have known. “Do I have anything to be worried about?”
Like waking up to a white wolf ripping out my throat.
“Only if you were Leandro, but I don’t see him coming back anytime soon,” Kade snorts.
I search his expression. “Leo left?”
Something dark and vicious stirs in his eyes. “Leo?”
Is he jealous?
“It’s what he asked me to call him. Why?” I hadn’t thought Dariel would care what Leandro did to me as long as I stayed away from him.
But then why was he standing at your bedroom door watching you sleep?
“He tossed him out before one or all of us eventually killed him,” Aden says.
“But why would you want to kill him?” I frown.
Kade offers me a fork of eggs. “Open.”
I look away as I open my mouth because there’s no way I can eat and not end up choking on my eggs with the heat in Kade’s eyes.
Slowly chewing, I shift my focus from Aden to Kade and then back again before swallowing. “What was he doing here if none of you seem to want him here?”
Aden shrugs as he forks up some of his eggs. “I don’t know.”
At the same time, Kade stabs a piece of bacon and holds it toward me. “Fucking with Dariel, I imagine.”
I ignore the bacon. “Why would he want to do that?”
“Kade.” Aden’s voice is laced with warning.
