“One hundred percent for real.” He chuckled nervously.
Tears blurred my vision, and I blinked them away as I choked out the word, “yes.”
Enzo slipped the ring on my finger and jumped to his feet. I squealed happily as he wrapped his arms around me, lifting me into the air and kissing me until I was breathless.
“I can’t believe you said yes. I love you so much.”
“I love you too. And I can’t believe you really asked me.” I giggled as he placed me back on my feet, a small shiver came over me though I wasn’t sure if it was from the cold or the excitement.
“Come on. Let’s get you somewhere warm.”
“I have a pretty good idea of a way to warm up,” I smirked, and he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me close as we walked back to the car.
Chapter 29
Aurora
I woke up the next morning naked in Enzo’s arms. The night before had felt like a dream but one look at that beautiful man beside me and I knew it was real. My heart felt like it might explode from the joy that built up inside me as I took in his chiseled form.
“See something you like?” Enzo opened one eye to peek up at me.
“Oh, so many things,” I smirked playfully.
He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer and kissed me deeply. “I’m starved. What do you say I find us some breakfast?”
“I think that sounds amazing, especially if we can eat it in bed.”
“That’s a deal. You stay here. I’ll be back.” He gave me a quick kiss and jumped out of bed.
As soon as Enzo had gone to the kitchen to cook, I hurried into the bathroom to freshen up before he returned.
“Yogurt and pastries alright with you?” He called from the kitchen.
“Sounds great.”
“Good because I think that’s all we’ve got here.” Enzo chuckled and I hurried back to bed.
“Are you making coffee too? I'll need that after last night.”
"Of course. Gotta keep your energy up."
"You're insatiable." I laughed but it was cut short by a loud crash and Enzo cursing.
I scrambled out of bed, scooped up Enzo’s discarded black button-down shirt and slipped it on as I hurried out to see what kind of mess Enzo had made. "Everything alright in there?"
"Everything’s fine." I walked through the house and into the living room. Enzo turned to me, all color drained from his face. "No, don't come in here. You don't need to see—"
But it was too late. There, sitting propped on Enzo's couch was Luna's beaten and bloody body. My gaze froze on her lifeless eyes staring up at me.
I stumbled backward, running into the door jamb as tears formed in my eyes and I started to shake. “How—”
My words died in my mouth and Enzo rushed to me in mere seconds. He wrapped his arms around my waist and caught me as my legs gave way.
“Who would have done this?”
“I think we know who,” he said quietly but with anger in his voice.
“Why? Why would he do this?”
