I moved around the desk to look over his shoulder as he pulled up security from the night before but there was nothing but static.
"It's gone."
"What's gone?"
"The footage from last night. It's gone."
"How long has Campioni worked here?"
"About three months or so. He worked across town before that."
My phone chimed and I pulled up the message from Marco.
There's something suspicious about that security guard. Check out the video and files.
I pulled up the security footage from Marco, grateful that we'd installed independent hidden cameras just in case something like that came up.
I ran the footage from the point right before the apartment cameras were disabled and watched as the security guard typed something into the computer.
"He disabled them," I muttered to myself but the guard with me responded.
"Who did?"
"Campioni. And here comes two of Fabbri’s guys with Luna's body."
I shook my head as two men on the screen carried a large tarp in from the direction of the service entrance. Campioni didn't do anything to stop them or even protest as they loaded the body onto the elevator.
I stopped the video. That was all I needed to see to know who was responsible. I pulled up the other files that Marco had sent me. It was a government photo of a man with the same name and address as Campioni but it was not the same person from the video.
"Something tells me that address isn't going to do us any good." I showed the security guard the photo on my phone.
"He stole Campioni's identity?"
"It looks that way."
"Shit.I swear I didn't know."
"I believe you."
"What are you going to do?"
"It's not what I'm going to do. It's what you're going to do. Call him. Don't let on that we suspect anything. Ask if he could cover the afternoon shift. Something to get him here. I'll take care of the rest."
I called some of my men into handle getting Campioni once he showed. They would take him to the Venturi cellar underneath Mateo's compound for questioning. I already knew that he was connected to Fabbri, but I was going to get all the information I could out of him before my men got rid of him.
As much as I wanted to handle it myself, I had to make sure that Fabbri received my message about leaving Aurora alone. I wouldn't be leaving that in anyone else's hands.
I had several hours before my plan for him would need to be executed and until then I plan on spending every moment I could with Aurora. She's been through too much. If I was honest, so had I. And no matter what business I had to handle, no matter what else in life came up, all I really wanted and all that really mattered was having her in my arms.
Epilogue
Aurora
I stood in the bridal suite, staring at myself in the full-length mirror. Even after all the planning both fake and real, I still couldn't believe that it was my wedding day.
Enzo and I had only been together three months but neither one of us wanted to wait any longer. Once you know, you know. There was no point in delaying being with the man I loved. We'd gone through so much together, it was hard to remember what it was likenotbeing with him.
Sienna and Vittoria helped me get ready. Mia was already eight months into her pregnancy, and it was getting harder for her to be on her feet for long.
