“Holy shit, babe!” he pants as he shoots down the back of my throat, his abs vibrating under my cheek. “I’ll sleep in the dunny with Dennis the tree snake if I get to wake up like that every day.”

I laugh, quietly impressed with my own efforts. But just as he’s about to return the favour, my phone rings, and I snatch it off the coffee table. But instead of Richard getting back to me, it’s my brother Anton, and he sounds furious. “What the hell, Alexa? I hear you’re chasing the Lyall brothers all around the goddamn town.”

No hello. No how are you. As always, my brother is only concerned with how my behaviour reflects on him. “What do you want, Anton?”

Mattie gives me worried eyes, but I just shake my head. I’m pretty much immune to my brother’s bullshit by now.

“I have to hear it from not one, butthreesources at the club last night! And then when I rang Richard this morning, he confirmed it. Said you actually flaunted it in his face by taking your toy boy to the hospital.”

My jaw starts to tick. “Well, I’m glad Richard picked up foryou. I don’t suppose he mentioned where he’s taken my daughter on what’s meant to be our weekend together?”

He’s silent for a moment, then says grudgingly, “It didn’t come up, but I’m sure he had his reasons.”

“Thanks, as always, for your support, Anton.”

Mattie’s tiger eyes take on a hard edge, but my brother just huffs. “You’re making this really difficult for me, Alexa. You know our firm is in negotiations for Lyall Corp business.”

I vaguely remember Richard saying something about it at the hospital. “What does that have to do with me?”

“Well, how fucking awkward is it going to be when your fling is over, and they still have to look at me, Dad, and Richard across the boardroom table?” My mouth drops open at his audacity, but he barges on. “And what about the tennis tournament I’m playing with Travis tonight?” This is also news to me, but Anton groans when I don’t immediately leap in with reassurances. “I don’t want you there, Alexa. Tell me you’re gonna stay home.”

“Newsflash, Anton. If I go, I won’t be there to supportyou.”

“Jesus Christ! You don’t know the first thing about the Lyalls. They’re omega hunters, Alexa. Whatever you think they want from you, you’re wrong. I’m sorry to be so harsh about it, but you’re not gonna last more than a month.”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell him I’m a switch. Which means I’m not onlyexactlywhat a bunch of horny alphas want, but my alpha side means I can also lock them down and drain their brains dry. Instead of being redundant, I’m a goddamn sexual marvel.

Or at least I would be if my lock wasn’t acting like a pussy.

“Think what you want, Anton. But if you ever ring me again and bark down the phone like this, I’m hanging up. And then blocking your number.”

He gives a cynical snort. “You say that now, but the next time you need money…”

“Screw. You. Anton.I never took a dollar from you that you didn’t bully me into taking. And good luck tonight. I’ll be rooting for your team, but only because I want your hot-as-fuck partner to score. How’s that for awkward?”

“For fuck’s sake, Alexa…”

But I disconnect before he can spew any more bile at me. My head is pounding, and I’m tempted to lob my phone across the room, but it’s still my only lifeline to Bree, so I place it carefully on the coffee table and close my eyes. Mattie’s hands are instantly on my shoulders, and he gives them a comforting squeeze as he eases me back against his chest. I was kind of hoping he only heard my side of the conversation, but the tension in his body probably means he caught every word.

“He’s a jerk,” I mutter, “but he’s not usually that bad. Me chasing the Lyall boys all over town seems to have pushed his buttons.”

“He’s got it backward,” Mattie grunts. “And they’ll kick his arse when they find out he was trying to warn you off.”

“Don’t tell them.” I roll onto my front, my hands on his chest so I can peer up at him. “Things are already weird enough with my family. If they lost the Lyall account, they wouldn’t forgive me.” He still looks worried, so I rise up and press a kiss to his lips. “Besides, the gossip is only half right. There are also a couple of Cliff boys who I’ve got my eye on.”

Heat flares in his eyes as he nips at my bottom lip. “Oh, yeah? Lucky bastards.”

“Who’s a lucky bastard?” Noah asks as he and Jack push through the front door, both sweaty and delicious from their morning exercise.

“Travis,” I say quickly before Mattie can catch them up on the ugly phone call. “We just decided we’re going to be the best support team he’s ever had.”

Because, screw Anton. I’m not going to jeopardise his job, but he can’t order me to stay home, either.

The brothers exchange a surprised look at my determined tone, but then Noah grins and claps his hands. “Excellent. So, the sexy cheerleader outfit’s a go then?”

I roll my eyes at that, but jump to my feet before he can head to the shower. “Can we go to your house for the rest of the weekend? I think I need a change of scenery.”

He saunters over for a sweaty kiss. “You really think you need to ask, sweet thing?Mi casa, es su casa.”
