I gave her a tight smile before turning to my classmates. All their eyes were on me, especially Toby. He was practically vibrating in his seat with all the excitement he held. Using him as my focal point, I began.

“Yeah, so my song is going to be about my relationship with my father. He was the man who got me into music and supported me up until he left my mother and me when I was ten.”

Toby made a surprised O-shape with his mouth as he leaned forward on his desk, all his attention on me now as he sat completely still. He was giving me serious Toby, all his attention laser focused on me.

I hit a couple of strings on the guitar and then began playing.

 “Dear daddy

I still remember the shape of your back

As you walked away from me

 Dear daddy

You used to tell me it was us against the world

Oh, how it all used to be

 And now, torn in half

Remember what we used to have

Staring up at the clear, blue skies

 But now I cry

Do you hear me, can you see me?

 Do you miss me?

 Do you think about me?

‘Cause every day, you’re in my mind

I hope you know, I won’t let go

Hide my feelings so they’ll never show

All these years, all this time

I’m still holding on to you

 Dear daddy,

I still remember the smile in your eyes

And the world in your touch

 Dear daddy

The way that you smiled and laughed and your hugs

Oh I miss it all so much

 And now, torn in half

Remember what we used to have
