JILLY-BEAN: I think dec is right. Go big or go home.
JILLY-BEAN: I’ll try to find out where their date is gonna be.
DECLAN: oh yeah!

I will not cry. I will not cry.
This is what you wanted, I remind myself.
But did I? Did I really want Chet? Chet of the pale plaid shirts and wrinkled slacks. Chet of the reddish-blonde barely there mustache.
I drop my head on my desk and pound it a few times. Lightly because I don’t want to give myself brain damage. I can’t be sad over losing Finn when I never had him to begin with. I mean what was I expecting? For him to knock Chet out of the way and claim me for himself?
This is real life not a romantic comedy.
My phone buzzes and I sit up to see a text in my girlfriends’ group.
JILLY: so what’s going on with my girls? What did everyone do this weekend?
CALLIOPE: we’re still in Madrid, it’s gorgeous here. But I miss y’all.
ALLY: Lucas had a stomach bug Saturday night so that was super fun.
ME: happy hour with work people Friday. Finn came over this weekend and got the bulk of the work done in building an enclosed outdoor area for my kitty-boys.
CALLIOPE: aww, that’s super sweet of him.
JILLY: I’ve been eating my weight in grits. This baby is letting me know he is not a fancy Brit and instead a good ol’ southerner like his mama
ALLY: do you know if it’s a boy for sure?
JILLY: nope. Just speculating. We decided to let it be a surprise.
JILLY: Sadie, any luck attracting the other scientist?
ME: actually, yes. He asked me out to dinner tonight
ALLY: on a Monday night?
ME: yeah. Is that bad?
ALLY: no, not bad but most people know that restaurants don’t bring their best chefs in on slow days.
ME: I’ll pick something easy then
JILLY: what are you thinking?
ME: maybe that roadhouse that isn’t too far from my house. They consistently have good burgers
JILLY: that sounds perfect
ALLY: yeah, solid choice for a Monday
CALLIOPE: good luck on your date. Rhett is calling me so I gotta go. See y’all soon
