She caressed his chest. “I like how you know a woman’s body, Cal. I’ve never experienced that before. Sure, I’ve had a couple of lovers that were fine, but you know just what makes me feel good. You’re an amazing lover.”
He stroked her hair. “Thank you. I think it’s important to understand my partner. To please her the best way I can. It’s fairly easy for guys to get off, but for women, it’s more complicated. So I try to learn everything I can so we can both enjoy ourselves.”
This was incredibly interesting. “So, how do you learn?”
He kissed the top of her head. “I ask questions—what feels good, what doesn’t. And I’ve read a couple of books. There are some really good books out there about lovemaking if you look.”
Oh my God. The guy actually readbooksabout sex? “Did you always feel this way? Like even back in high school?” She was starting to feel drowsy, and lying here on Cal’s chest felt wonderful. And how many guys were willing to talk like this after sex?
He sighed. “Unfortunately, no. I was a horndog like every high school kid back then.” He ran his hand up and down her arm a few times. “In between tours, when I was in the service, I met a girl, and I really liked her. She had some issues, it turned out. Her dad had messed with her, and she couldn’t have an orgasm. I felt terrible. I tried everything I knew—which, I’ll admit, wasn’t all that much, considering what I know now.”
He paused so long she wondered if he’d go on. “Were you able to help her?”
“Unfortunately, while I was overseas, she took up with someone else. But I’d made the decision by then that I wanted to learn more about a woman’s body and how to pleasure it.” He paused again, then went on. “So, when I went on leave and hooked up with women, I began asking them what they wanted and what felt good and what didn’t feel good. And I found an illustrated book on the art of the female orgasm. I still have it at home. It’s amazing.”
She smiled. “There’s seriously a book like that?”
“Yep. Come to my place when this is all over and I’ll show it to you.” He chuckled. “I took it back to Kandahar, and it was the most sought-after book in the barracks.”
She grinned. “I’ll bet. Their wives probably wondered what the heck happened over there when they got home.”
He tightened his arm around her and kissed the top of her head. “Don’t you know it.”
She put her arm around his waist and snuggled closer. Then she slid her leg over his thigh. She’d sleep like a baby tonight. “Goodnight, Cal. Wake me if you wake up.”
He chuckled. “You bet I will, beautiful.”
God, he made her feel good. What an extraordinary man.
Chapter Six
Cal woke well beforedawn but didn’t wake Vic. She needed her sleep more than anything else. Last night had been sweet and so special, as he’d hoped it would be. Finding that Vic was open to trying new things had been perfect. Sometimes women were put off by his size, but, after a moment’s surprise, she’d accepted him. He’d been careful, of course. He still didn’t know if she could take all of him. He hadn’t tried.
She still lay sprawled across him, sleeping so deeply that she snored softly. He found it endearing and kissed her dark hair.
He hadn’t felt this relaxed in so long he couldn’t remember. There was something about Vic that spoke to his soul. Maybe it was the way she’d reacted to Azul’s passing. Or her intensity about her career. Or maybe it was the way she always said just what she meant. She never sugarcoated anything—even with her bosses, apparently—and in the past she’d never flirted with him on the job.
