As they headed that way, he called Agent Hamill and brought him up to speed. Hamill, who was at the other lumber store in town, said that he and Agent Williams would come right over.

“We should wait to speak to Greyson, I guess, until the agents get here.” Colt said.

Taylor’s eyes narrowed with impatience. “Are you sure?”

“We could always question him, but then the poor guy would have to go over everything again when the Feds get here.”

“Ugh. I know you’re right, but I want to hear what he knows.”

Colt took her hand as they walked among the aisles of lumber looking for Greyson. Finally, they spotted a young man loading two-by-sixes onto a shelf. They approached, and Colt asked, “Are you Greyson, by any chance?”

“I sure am. What can I do for you?” He continued to stack the two-by-sixes as he waited for Colt’s answer.

“We’d like to ask you some questions, but we’re waiting for some colleagues to arrive,” Colt said.

“Huh. What’s this about?” he asked.

“Just give us a few minutes, and then we’ll explain.”

Taylor had begun pacing the aisle, her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes anxious and roving. Colt left her to it, hoping the movement would calm her nerves.

Taylor couldn’t believethat they finally had a lead. Now they could begin the search. Surely the FBI would agree to that now.

A few moments later, Agent Hamill walked over to them. “I assume this is Greyson?”

“He is,” Colt said.

Hamill held up his badge wallet and introduced himself and Agent Williams. “Greyson, I’d like to ask you some questions.” He showed him the photo of Gantry. “Do you recognize this man?”

“Yes, sir,” Greyson said. “He came in yesterday just before closing and ordered some lumber. He had a van, and we tied the plywood on top of it and put the other lumber inside.”

“Was there anyone else with him, Greyson?” Agent Williams asked.

“There was another man in the passenger seat, but I didn’t get a very good look at him,” Greyson said.

Hamill showed him the pictures of Jeb and Jared and, after a moment of scrutiny, Greyson tapped the photo of Jared. “I think it was this guy. Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was him.”

“When they drove off, did you see which direction they went?” Hamill asked.

“Well, that’s the weird thing. They drove in here the wrong way. They came from the back alley instead of from the front, and then they backed up and left the same way. I thought it was strange at the time.”

“There’s a back-alley entrance?” Agent Williams asked as he shook his head in frustration at Hamill.

“People aren’t supposed to use it. It’s the wrong way, like I said,” Greyson said.

Hamill said, “Damn it!” under his breath and then asked, “Will there be a copy of their order inside, Greyson?”

“Yes, just ask Bella. She should be able to find it for you.”

Williams continued to question Greyson about the encounter. Hamill turned, and the three of them headed to the front of the store, where Bella searched for and found the invoice. Hamill glanced at it. “Weather-treated lumber. As we suspected, it looks like they’re doing house repairs to the exterior of some kind of dwelling. If we’re lucky, we should be able to spot the place from the air.”

“From the air? Like from a helicopter?” Taylor asked, her pulse picking up speed at this good news.

“Yes,” Williams said. “We have access to a chopper. It’ll take a bit to get it here when we call, but we can get one.”

“That’s fantastic,” Colt said.
