He felt her exhale and relax against him.
She looked up at him hopefully. “You’ll be with me, right?”
“Yes.”
“What will you do with your house?” she asked.
“Sell it. We don’t need two houses.”
Raina wrapped her arm around his waist and rubbed her nose against his chest. “I hope you’ll always be with me.”
He tipped her head up. “I will. You can count on it.”
She smiled brightly. There was no way he could walk away from this without some loving.
He bent his head, and his mouth covered hers with a desire that surprised him and made his body even hungrier than it was. He tried lifting his head, but she made this wild little mewing sound that went directly to his cock, so his mouth went back to exploring hers.
The phone ringing finally caught his attention, making him pull away.
He cuddled her as he reached for the phone. “This is Dr. Pratt.”
“Hey.”
Alex smiled. “Hi, Gage. What do you need?”
“It’s whatyouneed. Darian called because he knows I have a few good friends who are cops. We also have Sebastian involved, so it should be handled soon. Maybe scare the fat aunt.”
Alex laughed. “That would be wonderful.”
“I’ll call if anything happens.”
“Thanks, man,” Alex said.
“That’s what friends are for,” Gage said and hung up.
He set the phone back on his desk and then looked down at the beautiful woman in his arms. He couldn’t be more pleased with the little he found. The circumstances when he met her could have been less terrifying, but she was well and his.
“How about I make you some breakfast?” he asked.
“Can I help?”
“Sure.”
“Okay,” she said excitedly.
Everything he found out about her made him love her more. She was everything he’d been looking for, and there was no way he would lose her.
Chapter Thirteen
Raina was drying the last dish when Alex’s phone rang. She listened for a bit and then turned when she heard her name.
Alex reached for her and pulled her tight against his body as he talked. Her stomach got tighter the longer he talked. She watched for any sign to see if it was good or bad news. When he finally hung up, she waited for him to say anything.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
He looked down at her and smiled. “The man has been gone for a few days, but your aunt is still there. She was supposed to be out by Friday of last week, but she ignored the deputy’s orders. The man we sent over to check everything out said the woman was in bad shape and couldn’t walk out of the house on her own. So, he’s planning on getting an ambulance to transport her to a facility that will care for her.”
“Will I have to take care of her?” she asked.
