He grinned at her enthusiasm. “Good. Now, I need to take the bandage off and check your wound.”

“I won’t get any more shots, will I?”

“Only if you really need them,” he said.

He turned the nightstand lamp on and brought it closer before gently pulling off the dressing. He poked around a bit and was satisfied it was healing.

“No shot, Baby. It looks really good.”

Raina lifted up and looked at the wound. “Can we take the thread out?”

“Not for a few days yet. I am not going to cover it and let the air dry it out.” He was amazed and pleased that she didn’t realize she was lying there naked and conversing with him.

“How about a nap? Mara is coming by this afternoon to see you.”

Her eyes widened. “Really?”

Alex smiled and nodded.

“Okay. I really want to see her. She’s the only friend I have.”

“No, she isn’t. You have me, too.”

“I like that, but I want to be more than friends with you.”

“What do you mean?” Alex asked.

Raina snorted. “I don’t think friends are obsessed with kissing each other.”

He chuckled. “You want to kiss me, huh?”

“Yes.”

“I want to kiss you, too.”

Her smile brightened. “Really?”

“Yes, really.”

“Can I have one now?”

Damn, the woman was going to drive him crazy. “Yes, but just one. You need a nap.”

She closed her eyes and puckered up, and he thought it was the cutest thing he’d ever seen. He bent and pressed his lips to hers. Her arms immediately wrapped around his neck, and she hummed.

That’s all it took for him to lose control. He had one of his hands cup the back of her head and the other on her waist. He used his mouth to put pressure on hers so her lips would open. When she did, his tongue dove, tasting every part of her he could reach. He could feel her trying to get closer to him, and her tongue mimicked his, making him moan.

Her whimper of need is what pulled him back. He lifted his head. The blush covering her face and chest and how her pupils were dilated told him without words that she wanted him. He didn’t even have to look at her hard little nipples that were poking into his chest or the scent of her desire to know.

“Baby, we have to stop before this gets out of hand.”

She blinked at him. “But what if I want it to get out of hand?”

Alex gritted his teeth. Jesus, she was killing him. “This won’t go farther until your stitches are out, and I know you’re one hundred percent healed.”

He loved how disappointed she looked but wouldn’t change his mind because the thought of hurting her made him want to howl in fury.

He stood and pulled the blanket up to cover her. “I want you to rest. Mara will be here in an hour or so. Do you think you can do that for me?”
