Her hand is gone from under his and she’s shaking her head slowly. A ripple of disappointment runs through me.
“Just leave it,” I say to Liam, lifting my hand to catch the waitress’s attention. “Let’s get drunk.”

THEN
~
HUDSON
She comes home later than usual. She’s still wearing her uniform, the short black skirt, the white shirt, the sparkly blue vest. She hates it. But for some reason, probably the shortness of the skirt, I love it.
She kicks off her shoes, little black heels that go with her uniform, and walks over to me. Lifting her arms, she loops them around my neck as my hands go to her sides, feeling the tightness of her skin as she stretches against me.
“Did you miss me?” she asks.
“Only everything about you.” I kiss her deeply and she presses against me eagerly, a jolt of lust hardening my cock. But I must resist. I mustn’t get distracted by her, though the temptation is strong.
Each week I listen to Liam complain about Megan. They got married a year after Finity and me, but they had a big and elaborate wedding. Ava got drunk and tried to kiss me then claimed Finity pushed her into the lake. Even though Ava had spent countless summers at the lake, she was a terrible swimmer and had always been afraid of the water. I was the one who ended up diving off the dock to get her. Finity stood watching with her arms crossed and a cold glare as I pulled the overly dramatic Ava to safety.
Liam complains about how he has to beg Megan for sex. He tells me how she’s always got an excuse, too busy, too tired, too bloated. I can’t help but feel sorry for the guy. He reckons that getting married turned a switch off inside Megan. The switch that made her want to have sex.
Finity is nothing like her.
She has never denied me. In fact, her hunger equals mine. It’s something special that binds us, our need for each other. It’s like a thirst that’s never quenched, an ache that never dulls. I think about her at work. I think about her when I’m waiting at home and she’s got a shift at the theatre. She’s constantly on my mind.
But today I have to tell her something I don’t want to.
I pull away from her kiss, and she looks up at me questioningly. “Everything okay?”
Her hands fall from where they’ve been wound into my hair to rest on my shoulders. She digs her fingers into the tight muscles.
“You feel tense.” She pulls out a chair. “Sit down.” She pushes me into the chair and steps behind me. Her hands are soft at first as they massage my shoulders. Between the magic of her fingers and the way her breasts brush against the back of my head, I almost get lost in her again. Almost.
Taking her hands, I pull her around me and tug her into my lap. “Seaton came to see me at work today.”
She frowns, knowing the name but not being able to place it.
“My father’s friend,” I prompt. “The one that owns the water bottling plant in my hometown.”
She nods. She’s never met the man, but she’s heard me talk about him often enough. Seaton Hughes was like an uncle to me. But I haven’t had a lot to do with him in recent years, so it was a surprise when he walked into my office.
“I hope everything is okay. Did he need some legal advice?” She tilts her head so it’s resting on my shoulder.
“That’s what I thought too, but no. He wants to retire and he’s looking for a new CEO of the company.”
She nods and her fingers creep across my chest, inching closer and closer to the buttons of my shirt. The simple movement is enough for me to close my eyes and breathe deeply. My wife is temptation in human form. She’s Lilith, Jezebel and Delilah all rolled into one.
I trap her hand in my own and bring it to my lips. “He wants me.”
That causes her to sit up straight. “He wants you to find him a new CEO?”
I shake my head. “No. He wants me as the new CEO.”
Finity clambers off my knee as though my skin burns. She almost stumbles across the room and the distance between us feels like a canyon. I get to my feet, but with each step I take toward her, she takes another back.
“Finity,” I reach out my hand as though she’s a timid but wild animal. “I didn’t say yes. I said I needed to talk to you first.”
