“So, we take them back to OPS,” Lock snapped. “This is what we do. We rescue people!”

“Without knowing her true condition?” Brock asked.

“Whose fucking side are you on?” Lock snapped.

“I haven’t chosen a side. I’m asking a question. Without truly knowing her condition, how could we even think of moving her? I’m not against going in for her, but it would have to be well planned out.”

“We would need our own doctor to go in and assess her,” Edu nodded. “Someone we could trust to not be swayed by Ambrose.”

“Do we know anyone like that?” I asked hopefully.

“We don’t, but Fox does,” Lock sighed. “Fuck, I really don’t want to make that call.”

“To Fox?”

“To Cash. He’s gonna kill me for even suggesting it.”

“So, what do we do in the meantime?” I asked everyone.

“We can’t tell her,” Chase said quietly. “It would kill her to give her that hope. And we need to know for certain that we can get our own doctor in there.”

“Not to mention that the minute you tell her what her father’s doing, she’s going to do everything possible to get over there. It would be putting her in danger,” Patrick added.

I nodded in agreement. “Good, then we’re all on the same page. Lock, let me know when you find out more from Cash. Patrick, let me know what you find out on the recordings. Chase…”

I nearly laughed at the sight of him trying to keep his eyes open any longer. I was surprised he was even lucid enough to participate in our conversation. “Go the fuck to bed.”

He flipped me off. “After you.”

“Why does he want to see both of us?” Kate asked as I pulled her toward Cap’s office.

I didn’t know, and I had a feeling I wouldn’t like it. Whatever this had to do with, it was clear Kate was here to keep me calm, and I didn’t ever want her to have to do that. I already put too much shit on her.

“I don’t know, but whatever it is, I promise you I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t, Hudson.”

She had way too much faith in me. After everything we’d been through, I was surprised she trusted me at all. I pushed his door open without knocking and was surprised to see Pappy standing off in the corner, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared me down.

“What the fuck is going on?”

“Sit down,” Cap ordered.

I glanced back at Pappy, looking for some clue as to what was going on. I pulled my chair right beside Kate’s and then sat down, earning a snicker from Cap.

“We have a request from Cash.”

“What kind of request?” I asked, my eyes narrowing dangerously on him.

He cleared his throat. “Um…it’s unusual, and you’re not going to like it.”

“I’m not doing a hit,” I said, squeezing Kate’s hand. “They have a psychopath on the payroll. Ask them to do it.”

“Hey, buddy!”
