“Damn straight, I’m serious.”
By now, my face must be strawberry in color.
“You want to talk? With me?”
Carson huffs out a breath at my words, looking a bit miffed and so fucking cute it hurts my heart; damn him!
“Yes! Why is it so difficult to believe?! You are a very beautiful woman, Mia, and I’m very attracted to you… I want to get to know you.”
I flush even more, probably up to cherry tomato by now.
“Geez, you don’t exactly beat around the bush. Do you?”
A lopsided grin so sexy that it should be fucking illegal for a guy so gorgeous to sport, graces his face, and I feel my lady bits clench, my underwear turning damp. Damn, and here I thought nothing could be hotter than that glowering thing he had going!
Why does he have such an effect on me?
I’m not this… well, thishorny, normally.
I mean, I see a handsome man, and I take the token appreciative look and move on. I don’t get all jittery, trembling, flushed, and even a bit wet with zero stimulation.
Carson just has to look at me to get my engine going… I’m not familiar with a feeling like this. It never happened with my boyfriend all those years ago. He had to really work for it to get me going the couple of times we fooled around, and it’s not like we had zero chemistry. We were attracted to each other. I liked him. He was a nice guy and everything. But it wasn’t like this…
I didn't spend sleepless nights thinking about him. I didn't daydream about him while I should have been studying or working, and, sure enough, he couldn’t melt my panties off with a look like Carson apparently just did.
God, I’msoin need of getting myself under control right now. This is bad, really bad. I can’t go there. I can’t.
He types a quick retort and hands me back the phone, breaking me from my trance-like staring of him.
“Not my style. So, how about that coffee, baby? Or would you rather for us to just keep standing here. People are starting to point their damn phones our way…”
I look around, and sure enough, I see groups of two to three people here and there, holding phones towards us, whispering and pointing in our direction. Dammit! How did I get so lost in him that I didn’t even notice people were gathering around to gawk at us?!
Well, at him, really. He’s the famous rock god. I’m just little old me.
It doesn’t change the fact that we still need to get someplace else, though.
I write my little note, and when I’m done, I put the phone on his outstretched hand —paw, really. This man really has big, rough hands. Our fingers touch for a second, and I feel something like a zing of energy go through my skin and almost drop the damn thing that probably cost more than a couple of months of my salary.
I mouth an apology, and Carson waves it away, smiling at me again and killing me in the process.
His eyes go to the phone to read what I wrote. His grin gets bigger until his entire face lights up. The incredible green of his irises turns brighter as his eyes crinkle a bit at the corners and manage to steal another piece of my heart, not to mention further ruining my poor panties as I stare at him like a ninny.
“Okay, sure… let’s go. But I can only stay for a little bit. I’ve got to head home… need to get ready for an exam that’s coming up.”
He gives me a thumb-up, types, then shows me the screen.
“Then we’ll make every minute count, Mia. Come on…”
I nod and smile, taking a shaky breath as I try to ignore the part of my brain that’s screaming at me to run for cover.
Carson gently takes my elbow, steering me toward the in-house restaurant, his touch possessive and sure, sending a shiver up my spine.
CHAPTER12
Mia
Carson smiles at me and strokes my hand as he holds it between his much larger ones. The gesture is innocent enough, I guess. But his eyes aren't innocent in the least.
