Her face heated up. Good thing there was no one watching them. They had dinner right there on the kitchen counter. Kat was relieved because eating in Angelo’s massive dining room felt a little imposing. His long table could seat twenty.
Sure, Kat knew she would eventually have to play hostess one day to Angelo’s business associates or guests, but that wasn’t today.
“Everything tastes delicious,” Angelo declared. He took a huge bite of her chicken.
“You’re just saying that to cheer me up. Your chef is probably tons better,” Kat pointed out.
“It’s been a long time since anyone made me a home-cooked meal, one that wasn’t prepared by a professional,” Angelo explained.“Thank you, Wife. I genuinely appreciate this.”
“You don’t have to thank me for such a tiny gesture,” Kat immediately said.“Can I tell you the truth?”
“Go ahead,” Angelo said with a nod. He seemed to genuinely like her cooking, because he grabbed seconds.
“After Theo showed me around and after I unpacked, I decided to make dinner to occupy my mind. Standing in your gigantic house and being surrounded by unfamiliar people and things, I felt a little overwhelmed,” she admitted.
Angelo scooted closer, bringing his barstool next to her. He took her hand in his hands and thumbed the wedding band on her finger.
Kat shivered, wondering if he wasn’t really thinking of what he was doing, or was he reminding her that she belonged to him now? Knowing Angelo a little better now, it was probably the latter.
“That feeling would eventually go away,” Angelo said.
“I know,” she finally said.
“Thank you for being honest with me,” Angelo said. He smiled and the familiar possessive look in his eyes made her nipples harden and her pussy moist.“Now that dinner’s over, shall we head upstairs?”
“Let me clean up first.” Angelo looked ready to argue but she beat him to the punch.“I don’t want Maria and the other kitchen staff thinking I can’t clean up after myself,” she added.
“Very well,” Angelo said. To her surprise, he said,“Let me help. It would speed things up.”
There was something domestic, Kat thought, about clearing the table and loading the cutlery and dishes with Angelo playing assistant. She certainly didn’t think a busy man like him would volunteer with chores. They ate everything, so there were no leftovers.
“Happy?” Angelo asked after watching Kat wipe the kitchen counter clean with a dishrag.
“Yes,” she said.
She hesitated when he offered her his hand. After a moment, she took it. They exited the kitchen. They passed by two of Angelo’s men, who were busy working in one of the living rooms. Last she counted, Angelo had three living rooms.
The two men greeted them a good evening. They traded knowing looks. Angelo ignored them and proceeded to guide her up the stairs. Once they were in his room, Angelo kicked the door closed behind her.
In moments, Angelo was on her. Hungry to experience her husband’s affections, Kat refused to remain a passive participant. She helped him out of his suit jacket and top while he took off her apron and old shirt. In moments, they were both naked.
“Bed,” he said, placing a kiss on the side of her neck. Then he bit down, making her groan.
“No,” she whispered.
“No?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Fuck me right here and now,” she said. Angelo flashed her a cock grin and complied with her request.
Chapter Seven
Unsure what to do next, Kat stopped a server and picked up a glass of white wine. She took a sip, but the alcohol failed to calm her nerves.
Kat studied the sea of faces around her. Men and women dressed to the nines in their best evening wear. She couldn’t wait for this charity event to be over.
Two weeks had passed since she officially moved in with Angelo. Those fourteen days had passed by in a blur. By now, one would think Kat was on her way adapting to her new life but she’d gone from being her father’s silent wallflower to Angelo’s society wife.
This wasn’t the first event she attended without her husband on her arm. Angelo promised he’d make an appearance if his meeting finished early but Kat doubted it would happen. Once again, she had to suffer through this gala alone.
