A loud roar echoed overhead, and Eva yelped, burrowing deeper against my side.
I glanced down the long off-white hallway. Gorgeous paintings I wanted to study hung on the walls, but I forced myself not to focus on them. I needed an exit strategy.
As we approached an intersecting hallway, I turned my head and saw the front door.
My chest fluttered. It was now or never.
Drake’s head popped out of the door to the right, and he snapped, “What thehellis taking so long? I could be attacked any minute.”
“We’re on our—” Falkor started, moving closer behind us.
I tapped into my dragon, and she roared. She was on board with getting out of here and back to our fated mate. I released Eva’s hold on me and spun around, facing Falkor.
Falkor lifted his hands, holding the collar open. I countered by squatting and snatching the gun from the sheath on his waist.
“Everly!” Eva whimpered, but I ignored her.
I couldn’t risk getting distracted.
Falkor dropped his elbows, one hitting the top of my head. The sharp throb caused my eyes to burn, and nausea rolled through me. I spun, kicking out my leg, and nearly toppled over.
Ev,Thorn connected.What’s wrong?
Grunting, Falkor wrapped an arm around my waist. He lifted me over his shoulder upside down, my face to his stomach. The blood rushed to my head. My vision hazed, and I dropped the gun.
“Get this contained,” Drake snarled, and I heard him run down the hall toward us.
A roar thundered in my mind, and Thorn connected again,I can feel your pain.
Unsure of what to do, I went with my gut. I grabbed Falkor’s belt buckle and unfastened it.I’m trying to escape.
Falkor recoiled, which meant my asinine plan was working. He readjusted his weight, getting ready to flip me over, but I wasn’t done yet. I yanked at the button and then the zipper of his pants, unfastening them, then shoved the pants down as far as I could reach.
“What iswrongwith you?” Falkor growled as I got a full view of his dangly bits.
One thing became clear, unfortunately. All dragons weren’t large, and my fated mate was exceptional…or maybe Falkor was one sad, lonely dragon. I wasn’t sure if I meant the dragon alone because, with a penis this size, it had to be lonely, too.
Drake growled loudly. “Why did you pull your pants down in front of my future bride’s face?”
I wasn’t sure what made me sicker: my face full of Falkor’s privates or Drake calling me his bride.
“Shedidit,” Falkor rasped as he dropped me.
I caught my weight on my arms and rolled forward onto my feet. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Falkor hurry to me, but his slacks prevented him from moving well. He squatted down. Time was running out.
I stood and reached for my sister. Then the world tilted, and it wasn’t from the elbow drop.
Drake had one hand wrapped around Eva’s throat; the other hand held a gun to my sister’s temple.
CHAPTERTHREE
My breathing quickened, and I grew dizzier.
Thorn’s voice popped into my head.Everly, you’re in pain and terrified. If you don’t tell me what’s going on, I’m coming. Damn the consequences.
I sank to my knees, pain and fear making the walls close in. I understood that my mind was playing tricks on me, but that didn’t make it any better. If I lost Eva and Thorn, it would destroy me.Drake has a gun to Eva’s head.
Behind me, Falkor hurried to his feet, and I heard him frantically pull up his pants and zip up his fly.
