“Everything with you is either poop or blood.” Eva huffed.
“Yeah. The two best things in life,” Elliott scoffed. “You need blood to get the oxygen to your organs, and you need to poop to get rid of the stuff your body doesn’t need.”
Unfortunately, he wasn’t wrong.
Elliott grasped the headrest as he leaned forward. “So, which poop issue did you pretend to have?”
The best thing I could do was answer and hope we moved on. “The kind that clogs the toilet, but despite it being pretend, I’d rather not talk about it.”
“Mad respect.” His hands disappeared as he sat back in his seat. “A total twofer. Crampingandsmell.”
The main road came into view, and some tension left my body. If we could blend in with the traffic, we might be home free.
We turned west.Where are we heading?
No clue.Thorn flicked his attention to the sky.Dad has figured something out. I’m sure we’ll stop somewhere soon to rent some vehicles. The last thing we need is for Drake and the warriors to be searching for your and Brenton’s vehicles. Drake could issue an alert on the Dragonnet, and dragon shifters would be watching for us.
Dragonnet? There were so many things I still had to learn.
He nodded. It’s an intranet for dragons. They post announcements, news, and any speeches the royals desire to deliver. It’s the one-stop space for all dragon happenings, activities of other thunders, and all other relevant information.
Now I remembered that he’d mentioned it before.
Out of the corner of my eye, something moved high in the sky. I turned my head…and my breath caught. Forty warriors were flying so high that no humans would be able to make them out…but I knew they had dragon sight.
We’d barely missed them, and luckily, there were now several vehicles on the road. They didn’t expect us to know they were coming.
Thank goodness King Arman had warned us.
Thorn,I connected.
I see them,he replied and took my hand. We’ll be out of here before they realize we’re gone, and they won’t be able to track us down by scent.
That didn’t mean they wouldn’t scour the area. My pulse quickened, but I forced myself not to tense. I didn’t want to alert Elliott or Eva that something was amiss.
“Oh, hey.” Thorn released my hand and reached into his pocket. He removed my bracelet and placed it into my hand.
The white gold was warm, and I ran my fingers across the interlinking small hearts and diamonds that clasped in the back. With my other hand, I touched the two white gold hearts hanging down. The first heart was inscribed withEverlyand the other withThe love between a mother and daughter is forever. A lump formed in my throat as my heart swirled with emotions. I’d do anything to have her here with me, but at the same time, it was also best that she wasn’t here now. She’d be another pawn for Drake to use against me, and he had enough of those.
I put the bracelet on and took Thorn’s hand again, enjoying the jolt of our connection and the smooth metal against my skin.
Lean your head back and get some rest,he said and squeezed my hand comfortingly.
I arched a brow.Really? We just woke up.
He cut his eyes to me.At least, try to relax. Or I’ll get Elliott talking about poop again.
Who are you? My mate or Saphira?I leaned my head back, pretending I was upset. You look like Thorn but sound like her. I’m all sorts of confused over here.
If we weren’t in a hurry to get away, and if your siblings weren’t in the back seat, I’d make sure to alleviateallof your confusion. He winked.
Heat swarmed through my body, and he grinned wickedly.
Tease,I connected.
His look stole my breath. He was so damn handsome in every way. I couldn’t wait to paint him one day. I had to; he was a masterpiece.
Using the buttons on the steering wheel, he turned on the radio and scanned the stations. I fidgeted and got comfortable, staring out the window as “Blackhole Sun” by Soundgarden played, thankful that I had Thorn in my life.
