Page 58 of Cass

Harley: No clue. I’m sort of busy over here.

Me: Trevor told me that Jackson knows. Apparently, he found Aunt Cass naked in Trevor’s bed this morning. Jackson and Trevor had some sort of big fight over it. That’s all I know. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a family dinner.

Skylar: Can’t wait for the madness to begin.

Harley: Oh boy. Maybe I should leave the kids at home.

I honestly have no idea what to expect tonight. It’s going to be epic though.

I make sure to arrive early. When I walk in the door, I see Trevor with his mother, not Cassandra. That’s weird. Melissa never comes to our family dinners.

“Yo, baby bro. How’s it hanging?”

He smiles and stands to hug me. “Verylong, low, and to the left. Thanks for asking. How are they hanging?”

“Heavy and high.”

Melissa looks at us like we’re crazy. “Is that how you two talk to each other?”

We both reply, “Yes,” at the same time and then laugh.

Trevor throws his arm around me. “Mom, Reagan is my more natural twin. We’ve all concluded that she and I were separated at birth. Right, sis?”

“Absolutely, bro. Good to see you, Melissa.”

“You, too, Reagan. Are your sisters here? I’d love to see the baby.”

“They should be here any minute. Ellie is so cute. She looks just like Harley.”

Jackson walks into the room. I kiss him hello. “Where’s Mom?”

“She and Cassandra had some important things to take care of today. They should be back soon.” I wonder what that’s about.

Payton and his crew arrive. Paisley sprints into Melissa’s arms. She showers her granddaughter with kisses.

Skylar, Hayden, and Jess arrive next.

We’re all having drinks as Harley and her family eventually arrive. Scotty runs straight to Jackson. They’ve already bonded, given that he spends two days a week here. The two of them are really cute together.

We’re all waiting around for Mom and Cassandra. You could cut the tension in this room with a knife. Even Trevor looks nervous, and he’s never nervous. I think everyone’s eyes wander toward the door every ten seconds.

They eventually walk in. I have no clue what’s going to happen. Oddly enough, behind them is a woman and a child. Cassandra notices us all staring. “Everyone, this is my sister, Beth, and my nephew, Luke.”

Skylar comes up to me. “Did she just say sister?” I nod in surprise. “Since when does she have a sister?”

“I have absolutely no idea. This is like a soap opera. It just keeps getting better.”

Jackson goes to embrace Aunt Cass before Mom which may actually be more shocking than the fact that Aunt Cass all of a sudden has a sister. He squeezes her hard and whispers in her ear. She smiles at him. I guess they made up from whatever happened this morning.

Of course he then moves on to Mom and open-mouth kisses her. “I missed you today.” Trevor and I look at each other in silent acknowledgement of their weekly Sunday night PDA sessions.

Trevor embraces Aunt Cass. Not in quite the same fashion as Jackson and Mom, but certainly more than just friendly. It’s weird to see them that way.

She grins at him. “Hey, Secretariat.”

I look at her and narrow my eyes. “Did you just call him that for the reason I think you called him that?”

She just grins. “You bet I did.”
