I briefly look through some of the numbers and the notes she provides. “I think you’re right. Put your Manolo Blahnik heels to their balls and see what you can get.”

She laughs again. “You have a way with words, Cassandra.” She points down to her shoes. “It will have to be Louboutins, though.” She winks as she stands to leave my office.

I smile. I like Beth.

“Oh my god,you ladies look incredible.” Jackson has a huge smile on his face.

Darian and I both laugh, as we emerge from their bedroom. We’re going to Cover Me tonight. There’s an AC/DC cover band, and they’re asking that everyone dress retro. I have on tight, ripped jeans, and an equally tight off the shoulder AC/DC sweatshirt. Darian’s wearing a jean skirt and a ripped AC/DC concert T-shirt. We’ve gone all out with our hair and makeup. We had a blast getting ready. It was like being back in college.

Alexandra, Brent, Gennifer, and David are meeting us there. I’m used to being the only one without a date. It doesn’t bother me. I could always bring Dennis if I wanted to, but I’d rather keep my options open.

Jackson immediately gets up from the sofa to come kiss Darian. “You look so hot, sugar. No chance I’m keeping my hands off you tonight.”

I look at him. “You must be joking, Jackson. In over two years, I’ve never once seen you keep your hands off her for more than two minutes. If the police ever need your fingerprints, I will send them to Darian to check her body. I’m confident they’re on every single inch.”

They both laugh. Darian smirks at Jackson. “She’s not wrong.”

Jackson smiles at me. “Look at her. Do you blame me?”

“Nope. Not in the least. She’s definitely a hottie.”

Darian replies, “We’re all hotties.”

Jackson looks good too. He has on multiple collared shirts, and he has all of the collars standing up. I laughed when I saw him. “You look extra young dressed like that, Jackson. It kind of makes you look like Trevor.”

“Please. I’m much better looking.” He smirks at me. “Trevor actually loves AC/DC. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him tonight. For a guy who acts like he’s twelve, he really does have an old soul.”

I look at him in surprise. “Why in the world would Trevor be there? It’s a really long way from New York City just to see a local cover band.”

He looks at me in surprise. “Darian didn’t tell you? He just moved back to his old place with Hayden. He said he didn’t like New York. He’s back in the office here, effective Monday morning. Don’t tell him, but I’m really happy to have him back in town.”

I shake my head and try to hide my emotions. “No, Darian didn’t mention it to me.”

“Oh, sorry. Yes, he’s back. I’m sad it didn’t work out for him there, but I’m happy to have him home. We’ve missed him around here.”

She looks through her purse. “I forgot my lipstick. Let me grab it and then we can go.”

She heads back into their bedroom.

Jackson looks to make sure she’s out of earshot, and then turns back to me. “Are we all set for her surprise party next weekend?"

I roll my eyes. He asks me every single day. Several times, every single day. “Yes, Jackson, everything is done. You don’t need to worry about anything.”

“Do you think she suspects anything?”

“Do I think she suspects that you’re throwing her a fifty-and-a-half surprise party because she refused a fiftieth? No, Jackson, I guarantee she doesn’t suspect a thing. She may kick your ass when she finds out, but she definitely doesn’t know anything about the party.”

“Okay. I just want it to be perfect. No expense spared. Whatever you think she’d like, just do it. Anything at all.”

“Can I fly in Aerosmith?”

“If you think it would make her happy.”

I was joking, but I’m pretty sure he’s not. Where the hell did Darian find this guy? He would legitimately do anything for her. I can only imagine how good she must be in bed.

We get to Cover Me, and the rest of the gang is already there. The band starts playing Thunderstruck, just as we get to the table. The girls all go to dance, while the guys stay at the table and order drinks.
