I give him a nasty look, silently letting him know that he needs to stop. He doesn’t.

He eventually motions his head toward the bathroom area. This is my opportunity to talk with him. I immediately stand up. “I’m heading to the restroom. I’ll be right back.”

I make my way to the hallway in the back of the restaurant. It’s out of sight from the table. Trevor arrives about a thirty seconds later.

Before I can get a word out of my mouth, he grabs my face and kisses me. Oh god. This is a kiss. He’s so passionate in the way he kisses. I’ve never been kissed with such open and obvious adoration. It fogs my brain. I momentarily forget that I want to talk to him, as I return his kiss.

Eventually, he ends the kiss. I have to blink my eyes a few times to regain my senses. Once I do, I grab his arm. “Trevor, what is this I’m hearing about you possibly not going to New York? You need to go.”

He shrugs. “I’m having second thoughts about it. I don’t know that I want to go anymore.”

I look up at him. “Why?”

He approaches me until my back hits the wall. His body’s flush with mine. He runs his thumb up and down the side of my neck. “You know why. There’s a certain someone I’m not ready to let go of just yet. A certain relationship I want to continue.”

He leans down and whispers in my ear. “We have unfinished business, Cassandra.” He then bites my earlobe.

I put my hands on his chest to give myself some distance. “Trevor, we are casual. We are not in a relationship. We are not dating. We have sex. That’s all we do.”

I’m unexpectedly having a hard time getting these words out. “You need to go to New York. That’s always been the plan. We’ve always had an end date, and now it’s here.”

He slowly shakes his head and smiles at me. “Plans change. We arenotcasual, Cassandra. We have been going at it like bunnies for nearly eighteen months. I haven’t seen anyone else in a very long time. I know you say that you do, but I think you’re lying.”

He moves his lips down, and kisses my neck. He again whispers in my ear. “I don’t think you want anyone but me.”

He’s not wrong. It’s been a long time since I’ve been with anyone else. I have no interest in other men right now. I’d never tell him that though.

I gaze up, giving him my best look of indifference. “You’re wrong, Trevor. I do see other men. Sometimes I need an actual grown-up man to satisfy my needs. A real man.” I know that will hurt him, but that’s what’s needed right now. He needs to hear this.

He smiles down at me. He grabs my hand, and places it on his very large erection. “I know you, Cassandra. I see you.” He squeezes my hand around him. “I know I am more man than you’ve ever had before.” He’s certainly not wrong about that. If what Darian says about Jackson is true, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

I catch some movement out of the corner of my eye. I quickly pull my hand and step away from Trevor. Just then, Melissa rounds the corner. She stops when she sees our close proximity. She’d probably pass out if she saw how close we were just a few seconds ago.

I smile at her as if nothing’s going on. “Hey Melissa. I was just congratulating Trevor. What an amazing accomplishment. You must be so proud of him. How nice it is that he’ll get to work with his brother and his father. I know he’ll love New York City.” I’m rambling. I don’t think I covered particularly well.

Melissa looks confused. Her eyes move back and forth between Trevor and me. “Yes, well he’s still undecided on that. Personally, I wouldn’t be terribly upset if he stayed close to home. I’d miss him if he moved away.”

I feign my best look of indifference. “I think he should go. That city suits him well.” I turn to Trevor. “Think of all the new, hot, young girls you can meet there. You’re going to have a blast.”

“Cassandra, you know I don’t like girls. I prefer women. Mature, successful, independent, sexy, older women.” My eyes pop open. Trevor smirks. He’s enjoying watching me squirm.

Melissa looks at Trevor, and then back to me. She’d have to be a fool not to realize what’s going on here.

“I’m just headed to the restroom. Cassandra, are you going in or coming out?”

I may need to defuse this situation. Trevor’s planted a bomb. Now I need to deal with it. I smile. “I’m going in, I’ll join you.”

We walk into the bathroom and Melissa turns to me. “I’m sorry, Cassandra, I didn’t catch your relation to the Lawrences. I know the girls call you Aunt Cass. Are you Darian’s sister? For some reason, I was under the impression that she only has a brother.”

I smile. “Darian and I have been best friends since our freshman year in college. I’ve always been a part of the girls’ lives. They consider me their aunt, though technically I’m not.”

“How old are you, Cass?”

“It’s Cassandra. Only the girls shorten my name, and that dates to when they were younger and couldn’t pronounce it. I’ll be fifty this year.”

“Are you married? I don’t see a ring.” I’m getting the full interrogation.

I shake my head. “No, I’m not. I’ve been divorced a few times. Nothing was ever right for me.”
