“I was never upset.”
“You were…annoyed that he left so abruptly four years ago. Then last night he wanted you to stick around so he could care for you, and now that upsets you?”
“Are you going to take away my therapy gold star? I’ve told a lot of people that it’s coming.”
She smiles. “I might have to.” Her smile fades into a look of concern. “What is this about? Do you have feelings for him?”
“No, of course not. I don’t do feelings.”
She’s quiet for a moment. “I think you might. Maybe you just don’t know how to recognize it since you’ve never allowed yourself to care for any man in the past.”
Silence.
“Do you want to see him again? Be honest. No Jade-like bullshit.”
“I love when you talk dirty to me.”
“Jade.”
“Ugh. Fine. Yes, I want to see him again.”
“Do you want to have sex with him again?”
“If you were given the greatest orgasm known to mankind, would you want seconds?”
“Fair enough. What’s wrong with considering a relationship with him?”
“One, I don’t do relationships. Two, neither does he.”
“Well then, maybe you each found your match. Tell me more about him.”
“He’s hot as hell.”
“Something more substantive.
“Well…he’s older.”
“How old?”
I mumble, “Thirty-eight.”
“That’s not terrible. You’ve certainly done worse.”
“You’re a fucking judgy therapist.”
“You’ve asked me not toblow smoke up your asson multiple occasions.”
“Yes, I’ve been with older, but it’s complicated. He’s…he’s Carter’s best friend.”
She closes her eyes and lets out a long breath. She eventually reopens them. “You’re telling me that you’ve just had the best sex of your life, and have potentially developed feelings for, a man who is the best friend of your cousin’s husband, your boss, who you’ve had a huge crush on for four years? Yes, consider the gold star off the table.”
“You make it sound worse than it is. There’s good news though.”
“I can’t wait for this.”
“I think my crush on Carter has waned. We were all out recently and I didn’t spend the night staring at him or masturbate to him when I got home.”
“What did you do instead?”
