“I know, I get that a lot, but it’s true. I don’t have a dominant bone in my body. I much prefer taking orders.”

His statement catches me off guard as the epiphany of all epiphanies hit me right in the solar plexus. Taking orders is what comes naturally, yet I never labeled myself. But he’s right. I am submissive.

All those videos picturing myself in that role should’ve been a dead giveaway, yet I only considered it a fantasy. Nothing more, nothing less. But now, I realize it’s something I want, more than anything else in my entire life.

“You alright there?”

I turn wide eyes on my handsome new friend, whose concern is palpable, so I settle my face into some form of bland. “I’m fine.”

He cocks his head, and his expression screams ‘REALLY?’

“Okay, so I’m not fine, but I doubt this is the right place to discuss how everything I’ve ever known is a lie.”

“Oh, honey.” He wraps his arms around me, and I could fucking cry, because no one has ever comforted me before, and it feels like heaven.

What the hell will I do tomorrow and every day after knowing how much I need this?

“Let’s go outside and get some air.” He whispers into my hair.

I only nod stiltedly and let him lead me outside.

We walk for a while until the chaos of the bar all but disappears before he gracefully lowers to the curb, wincing a little as his ass meets concrete.

He chuckles. “Last night, my Dom turned my ass red.”

As if that’s explanation enough.

He pats the curb by his side, and I clumsily fall next to him, only his hand on my arm keeping me from falling over.

“Easy there, buttercup.”

I laugh nervously. “Sorry, I never drink.”

He eyes me. “And one shot was enough to imbalance you?”

I shrug with a hiccup that makes us both laugh. “I suppose so.”

“Next time, we’ll stick to beer, at least until you build a tolerance.”

I look at him, unable to hide the hope on my face. “Will there be a next time?”

He drags me into his arms, even though I’m more than happy to go. “Of course, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

I lean my head against his strong shoulder and sigh. “Thank you.”

He pats my back, and I reluctantly pull away, putting enough space between us to see his face.

“You don’t have to thank me, it’s what friends are for. Just stick with me, kid, and I’ll tell you everything you need to know.”

He then proceeds to explain that tonight at the bar is more of a mixer rather than anything kinky.

“Most people show up because they’re curious or they’re hankering for an invite to one of Estrella’s parties.”

I pale at the mention of my heart’s desire. “You know her?”

“Are you kidding? Essie and I go way back. She’s my closest friend. We got into this lifestyle together.”

My stomach drops as dread encompasses every inch of my body. “Is she your Dom?”
