“Do you think she makes him wear a collar?” Riley asks.
“And ride a bike?” Brody adds.
“And a hat. You can’t forget about the hat,” Elder says.
“We’re not in the fucking circus,” Miller mutters.
Moon barks out a laugh. “We’re totally in a circus.”
Riley lays his arm around her shoulders. “Yep. The Bragg slash Sky family circus.”
“Coming to you every Wednesday night,” Brody adds.
Every Wednesday night? Miller said he wanted to take me out to dinner tonight when we left my house. ‘Take me out’ does not say family dinner night.
“Excuse us,” I grab Miller’s hand and drag him away from his family. At least I try to. His brothers and Moon follow us. I glare at my friend. “I expected more of you, Moon.”
She shrugs. “Sorry, but I’ve got a lot riding on Project Enemy. Momma wants a new dishwasher.”
Riley sighs. “I told you I’d buy you a new dishwasher.”
She slams her hands over her ears. “La la la la la. I can’t hear you.”
“He says he’ll buy you a new dishwasher,” Brody blares at her.
Moon drops her hands from her ears to wag a finger at him. “You’re already on my shit list. Don’t push it.”
Brody clutches his chest. “Me? I’m on your shit list. Whatever did I do?”
I drag Miller further away while the rest of his family is distracted by Brody and Moon bickering.
“What the hell?”
He grunts.
I glare at him. “Don’t you dare use your cranky pants responses with me now. I want answers.”
He crosses his arms over his chest and flexes his biceps.
“I will not be distracted by your marvelous muscles either.”
He smirks. “Marvelous muscles?”
I poke him. “Knock it off.”
He captures my hand and holds it against his chest. “I’m sorry.”
“Good start. For what?”
“Ambushing you.”
“And why did you ambush me?” I ask even though I have a pretty good idea.
He cocks an eyebrow.
“Fine,” I huff. “I admit it. I wouldn’t have come to a family dinner with you if you’d asked me. You still should have asked.”
He shrugs. “This way I got what I wanted.”
