I might have punched some sense into my baby brother when he was dicking around with Moon. And now they’re here to punch some sense into me. They’re wasting their time. The damage is done. I fucked up. End of story.
“I get to go first.” Peace smirks. “And I’ve already got Damon’s permission to ask his question.”
“First things first.” Elder pours shots for everyone before handing them out.
I lift my glass. “Truth or punch.”
“Truth or punch!”
The tequila burns as it goes down. I burp and have to swallow before I throw the liquor back up. I fucking hate tequila.
Elder snickers. “This is going to be fun.”
I point at him. “You’re cleaning up the puke.”
“Worth it.”
“Let’s start.” Peace studies me. “What did you do to break Eden’s heart?”
This is an easy one. “I allowed her to continue to assume something when I knew it wasn’t true.”
“Boo!” Brody shouts. “Too cryptic.”
“But it’s the truth.”
Which means no one can punch me. Although, I’m not worried about any of my brothers punching me. None of them can pack a punch the way I can. Although, I don’t know about Peace. As a cop, he’s had training in hand-to-hand combat.
But I do need to drink another shot. Unlike the rest of these bozos, I have to drink a shot for each question whether I answer it or not.
“What is this thing you allowed her to assume?” Peace asks.
“Party foul. Red flag on the field. Peace is cheating,” Riley declares.
“I told you I get Damon’s question.”
“Getting Damon’s question doesn’t mean you get two questions in a row.”
“Yeah,” Brody agrees with his twin. As always.
“Fine.” Peace motions to Elder. “Your question.”
“What is this thing you allowed Eden to assume?” Elder repeats Peace’s question.
I scowl. I should have used an even more cryptic answer.
“When I agreed with her I have nothing to prove to Dad, I let her assume I wouldn’t go through with the expansion of the brewery.”
I hold out my shot glass for a refill, but Elder doesn’t move.
“What are you talking about? Why would you have anything to prove to Dad?” he asks.
“Don’t you want to hear about how I broke Eden’s heart?” I’d rather discuss how I ripped the heart out of the woman I love than discuss dear old Dad with my brothers.
“Nice try.” Elder sits next to me. “Why do you want to prove anything to Dad, the serial cheater?”
“And how does expanding the brewery fit into this scenario?” Riley asks as he sits on the other side of me.
Brody plops down on the floor across from us while Peace stands with his arms across his chest appearing confused. Peace never met old man Bragg, his biological father. I’m afraid he won’t be getting a very rosy picture of the man today.
