He grunts, which is ‘yes’ in Miller speak.

“Because I won’t give in. I don’t do relationships.”

He stalks toward me. I back up until my feet hit a box and I’m trapped.

“I told you. All you have to do to get me to back off is tell me why you’re afraid of commitment.”

I hold up my palm to keep him an arm’s length away. “I’m not afraid.”

He crosses his arms over his chest and his biceps bulge with the action.

He chuckles. “Eyes up here.”

I force my gaze away from his glorious biceps. Glorious biceps? I need to smack some sense into myself. Biceps are not glorious. Especially when they’re on Miller’s body.

I scan the rest of his body and my middle heats. Maybe his biceps aren’t glorious, but there are definitely some glorious parts. Delicious parts. Parts I know can make my body sing.

“I’m not afraid,” I repeat because I kind of forgot what the topic of discussion is.

“If you’re not afraid, why don’t you do commitment?”

Because men are big fat liars who say what you want to hear but then do what they want to anyway.

“None of your business.”

“Wrong answer,” he growls. “Everything to do with you is my business.”

I roll my eyes. “You hated me a week ago. Next week, you’ll move on to someone else and I’ll be ancient history.”

He grits his teeth. “I never hated you.”

“Could have fooled me.”

“And I never pitied you.”

“Again. You could have fooled me.”

He palms my face. “I’ve wanted you, Eden Spring, since the first moment I saw you running around without shoes on.”

“Will you get over the whole no shoes thing already?”

“I’m not giving up.” He drops his hands and I miss the warmth. “But I will give you a reprieve for the day.”

I slap my hands on my cheeks. “A reprieve? How thoughtful of you!”

The corners of his lips tip up in a barely there smile. “Come on, flower girl. We need to get the supplies ready for your class and get your store cleaned up before tourists flood Winter Falls.”

I latch onto this excuse to stop talking about my ‘relationship issues’.

“Let’s get to work.”

Miller

Iopen the back door to the brewery but it slams shut before I can sneak away. Damn. I was this close.
