“I had two fathers. Of course, only one was my real father, but they were both my fathers,” he said, amused.

“So, your mom had two mates?” I asked, still trying to wrap my head around it.

“She had three, but one passed away before they completed their mating.”

“Oh, that must have been hard on your mother.” I said, laying a hand on his arm.

It seemed lately, any excuse to touch him was what I craved. I think it was what we needed. He looked at my hand for a moment before he looked up at me with those honey and brown eyes.

“They hadn’t mated yet, so their connection wasn’t completed yet but that didn’t mean she hadn’t developed feelings for him.” He took a deep breath as he looked away, looking lost in yet another memory.

“Are multiple mates common?” I asked, feeling more curious.

“Most of the mated people in our pack had more than one mate. It wasn’t an uncommon thing to see.”

“What does it feel like?” I asked.

“What does what feel like?” He looked at me confused.

“To be mated?” I didn’t know if I was crossing a line, but I wanted to know what devotion looked like.

“I don’t know,” he said, with a small frown.

“You didn’t have a mate or any prospects?” I don’t know when I started, but I let my hand trace up and down his muscular forearm.

“Zev, Aeon and I were betrothed to a Belladonna,” he said, like it was common knowledge.

“Excuse me?” I almost screamed.

He studied me, like he was looking for something important. A look of anger crossed his face before he went back to studying me.

“I still can’t believe you know nothing about us.” He looked frustrated. “I keep waiting for you to show your true colors and tell me this is all a game.”

The need to defend myself was instinct, but I knew they only knew the bad side to Belladonnas. My family had put him here.

“I wish there was something I could do, so you knew I was being truthful,” I said, trying to think of a spell that could show him my true intentions.

He leaned forward until we were only a few inches apart, taking my hand in his, staring into my eyes.

“You have never heard of us before?” His voice was guttural before I saw his eyes change to a vibrant gold.

“No,” I said, almost hypnotized.

“You didn’t know you were coming here to break a spell.”

“No.”

“Do you have magic?”

“No,” I said, feeling a wash of power over me.

A growl came from his chest as he held onto my hands tighter.

“Have you ever cast magic before?” His guttural voice clipped in anger.

“No,” I said, feeling a little lightheaded.

He let go quickly, looking like he was out of breath, with sweat along his brow.
