“No, it wasn’t. I’m going to go call Amber,” Grace said and left the three of us alone.

“Another one bites the dust,” I said when we were alone.

“Are you not okay with this?” Logan asked, concerned.

“What? I’m happy for you. I was just giving you a bad time. Who would have thought, man,” I said and shook my head.

“Right,” Eric said and looked in the direction that Grace had just gone.

“Happy looks good on you, on both of you. It was a good move for us to come here,” I said.

“And for you too,” Eric said.

“Yeah,” I said slowly.

“That sounded convincing,” Logan said and looked at Eric.

“Definitely,” Eric said with a nod.

“Things with Zoey are great. We’re doing well, getting closer. I’m more in love with her today than I was the day before and will be more in love with her tomorrow,” I said.

“But?” Eric asked.

“She seems to be holding back. I know her, I’ve known her most of my life, and I can tell there’s something going on with her that she isn’t showing me or doesn’t want me to see.”

“What do you think it is?”

“I’m not sure. She doesn’t seem as there with me as I want her to be. I’m sure that doesn’t make sense. It feels like there’s a part of her that she’s holding back, and I don’t want that.”

“You want all of her,” Logan said.

“I want everything with her. I have since we were kids. She keeps talking about the internship ending and trying to decide what she’s going to do next. She’s a woman who has a plan; she’s planned everything in her life since she was a child. I’m sure what she wants to do next is no different, but she won’t share it with me.”

“Maybe she doesn’t want to,” Eric said.

“Because she doesn't see me as a part of her future? That’s bullshit, or it should be,” I said.

“Aren’t you holding a bit of yourself back from her too?” Logan asked.

“No. I’ve been completely honest with her about everything in my life.”

“Including how you feel about her. I mean really feel about her?” Logan asked.

“Or how much money you have?” Eric added.

“She isn’t ready to hear that stuff. She doesn’t want to. I can tell.”

“Do you think she might be holding back on you because she can tell you’re doing the same? Maybe she can sense your hesitation as much as you can sense hers?” Logan asked.

“There is no hesitation with me; I’m just waiting for the right time.”

“When is that going to be?” Eric asked.

“Soon. I don’t know. I kept hoping she’ll give me a sign, show me that she was as into this and me as I am into her, but so far, I haven’t gotten anything.”

“Because you haven’t given it to her. Maybe she’s waiting on you. She might be scared to open herself up to you if she thinks you aren’t serious about her. Have you told her you’re willing to leave New York for her?” Logan asked

“How do you know that?” I asked.
