“Three grandkids and counting,” Remy said with a smile.
It still took his breath away to think that all his children were married and three of them were parents. Bailey and Luke had welcomed their daughter Hennessey a little less than a year ago. Mac and Hope’s Rye had just turned eighteen months. Remy had honestly thought that Morgan and Walker were going to wait to have kids but they had surprised everyone by saying they were pregnant at Hennessey’s christening.
It had pushed their wedding up a few months but Karla, Morgan’s mother, and MaryBeth had been more than up for the task. They planned an intimate and beautiful beachside wedding at Remy and MaryBeth’s Hampton house in May.
James hadn’t been due to arrive for a few more weeks, but on the night of JD and Lexi’s wedding, Morgan had gone into labor. JD had offered for them to stay but Walker wouldn’t hear it. It didn’t surprise Remy that his son and new daughter in-law would be coming to Sunday dinner right after their honeymoon because they wanted to see the newest addition to the family.
Remy had met his newest grandchild and was just smitten with him as he was the other two, and he couldn’t wait to meet the others that would come along. He wouldn’t push Lexi and JD to start a family, not with Lexi starting her own online magazine and JD getting ready to open up his second restaurant.
Remy was happy that all of his kids had found the right person to spend their lives with. They had found their perfect partners, ones that supported them and loved them and challenged them to make themselves and the world a better place.
Mac continued to excel as head of public relations for Bennett Liquor. He and Walker worked more closely together than ever as Walker had transitioned seamlessly into the role of CEO. The stability of the position and the need to rely on Mac more heavily had helped to improve their friendship. They were as close as Remy always hoped they would be.
Bailey had decided to take a step back from Bennett Liquor after Hennessey was born but was happy to take a position on the board and had started to help with the more philanthropic portion of the company. It was the perfect use of her time without taking away from Hennessey or being too taxing on her second pregnancy, which was due in late summer.
“What time is the photographer supposed to be here?” MaryBeth asked
“In about an hour. That should give everyone time to get here and get settled,” he said.
“Are you sure it was wise to spring a family photo shoot on our children?” she asked as she pulled out some appetizers from the refrigerator.
“I thought it would be more fun to surprise them,” he said with a smile.
“Like how you surprised your sons by finding them their wives?” MaryBeth asked.
“Considering how well it all turned out, I think it’s an excellent idea.”
“Hopefully, they will think it’s as lovely of an idea as I do,” MaryBeth said and kissed Remy’s cheek.
There was a knock on the door and it was immediately opened. MaryBeth beamed at Remy.
“They’re here!” she said and headed towards the door.
Remy was right behind her, excited to share his latest surprise with his family. It was just the first of many that he had planned for them in the coming months and years, and he only hoped that his family would continue to surprise him with wonderful moments too. After all, isn’t that what family was all about?
